AN INVITATION TO ALL BC WRITERS

Cecilia Lamont Literary Contest 2003

We invite aspiring writers in BC to submit entries to the 28^th Annual Cecilia Lamont Literary Contest sponsored by the White Rock and Surrey Writers’ Club.

SUBJECT       Open. Poetry or Prose (short stories, articles: fiction or non fiction) not previously published for a fee.

JUDGES          Two independent judges will assess the quality of the entries which may have to pass a screening committee.

AWARDS     The following prizes are awarded in each of the Prose and Poetry categories:

                        1^st prize                        $75.00 plus engraved plaque

                        2^nd prize                        $50.00 plus certificate

                        3^rd prize                        $25.00 plus certificate

                        1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd Honourable Mention      Book and Certificate

In addition the names of both 1^st prize winners are engraved on the permanent Cecilia Lamont Trophy.

AWARDS NIGHT    To be held on Wednesday, February 18^th, 2004 at7: 30 p.m. at White Rock Public Library, 15342 Buena Vista Avenue, White Rock, BC.

RULES OF ENTRY

1.                                      Manuscripts to be type written, double spaced, with top detachable cover sheet showing title, author’s name, address and telephone number.  The actual manuscript to show title only-no other identification. Please do not put both prose and poetry on the same cover sheet.

2.                                               Maximum length 1,000 words for prose, 36 lines for poetry

3.                                                Entry fee of $6.00 per individual piece submitted, reduced to $5.00 per piece for entries of 4 or more. Prose and poetry entries may be combined by one entrant to achieve the lower fee of $5.00 per piece. Cheques payable to White Rock and Surrey Writers’ Club

4.                                               Deadline postmarked October 31,2003. Late entries will not be accepted.

6.                                               Manuscripts will not be returned but winners will be notified.

7.                                               By entering this contest, participants grant the White Rock and Surrey Writers’ Club the right to feature their entries in future club publications (should there be any), but subsequent publishing rights remain with the author.
