ABOUT US

The Writer’s Realm came into being in June of 2002 in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. We started out as a group of four women who met while taking the creative writing program from Surrey Continuing Education .  Never having been part of a writer’s group before we decided to create our own. As we knew and felt comfortable with each other, it seemed like the next logical step.

Our members now range in ages from nineteen to the mid sixties and genres range from children’s to romance to science-fiction and mainstream with some poetry thrown in for good measure. (Must keep our minds balanced you know!)

We meet every other Thursday from 7-9pm in members’ homes. Our meetings are very loosely structured in that we have certain things we do each meeting but in no particular order. We try our best to focus on the creative side of our craft and encourage members to share the sometimes bumpy road of their current project or anything they feel would be of interest to the group (articles, jokes etc)

If you feel you would like to meet with us and see if our group is what you have been looking for just drop us a line and we will be more than happy to have you drop into out next meeting as our guest.

Our Christmas party was a lot of fun, with good food and even better company. Spouses were invited to join us for an evening of good cheer and friendship. Our First Annual Xmas Writing Contest was a lot of fun, especially for the spouses who got to vote for the winning entry.  Click here for pictures of the get together and to view the Writing Contest  entries.

A welcome honor was bestowed when the Langley Times chose to feature us in the second of a three part series on books and writing. Click here to read the article and view the accompanying photo.

In April 2003 readers from Delta to Boston Bar voted for the best novels of all time. Click here to view the Top 100 Readers Choices.

Sand & Stone

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:

"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"

The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.
