Chippewa Chippewa
Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred
Chip was a Bay & White Tobiano

I'm sure we all had a horse which we will never forget. Ours will always be Chip. Chip was a Gymkana Pony, although he just made a horse at 14.3 hh.

I spent many hours riding in shows and gymkana's in the Vancouver area. Chip consistently ran barrels in the low 15 seconds while I urged him on. The only thing I loved better was to play Hide and Seek in Horseman's Park with my friends or ride the trails in the Garibaldi Mountains.

Chip taught me responsibility as well as how to ride better. We entered Pony Club and both of us were in heaven flying over obstacles, unless of course, they were bales of hay and Chip decided it was lunch time.

Chip may have been a small horse but he had a big heart. He soared over 3 foot high cross-country fences as if they were cavalletti's, yet when asked to navigate the Alouette River crossing with large boulders, he carefully picked his way across.

Chip, a Pony & Norm Groman Chip & Norm Groman

Chippewa even had his moment of fame when he helped Norm Groman advertise jeans. Unfortunately Norm was afraid to actually sit on Chip because he thought the horse was too big!

Tango & Buggy Tango Kilobar & the Buggy
Quarter Horse

We had a horse whom everyone loved, whether they were family or friends, or just someone we met on the street. Tango's presence and love for people, especially children, caught everyones attention. During parades he would try and visit with anyone who had a pat or a kind word for him.

Tango was well trained in most disciplines including western pleasure, reining, penning, roping, cutting as well as english disciplines such as, dressage, jumping and 3-day eventing. He loved to pull the buggy, especially down the cross country trails. He was most at home on trails on and behind the ranch. He loved to gallop down winding roads or wide trails and would jump whatever obstacles were in his way.

We used to call Tango 'Papa' because of the care he would use whenever he was around the young foals. The foals would jump up on him and he would quietly stand while they had their fun. He would also look after the foals while their mothers were resting. Tango taught all the horses on the place to travel through swampy areas and also how to find water and grass in the winter.

Here is Liisa driving Tango and her buggy during one of many competitions she attended.

AJ & the sled General Alarm
Thoroughbred

AJ pulling the sled during the holidays. Although AJ spent his younger years competing in 3-day eventing, he never seemed to regret his retirement, especially when we hooked him up to a sled and went out with the bells jingling. He really loved the Christmas holidays when all the kids (young and older) arrived for the sleigh parties.

AJ always gave everything he could. I will always remember AJ for his big heart and love to excell in whatever he was asked to do, including cattle penning.

Susan riding Beau Orillia Lee Beau
Arabian

Beau back in training in the spring after having the winter off. Susan is riding here.

Beau excelled in jumping and english disciplines. He was very well balanced and a pleasure to ride both in the show ring and on trails.

Beau was a true dessert horse. He didn't like water and did whatever he could to avoid it. He also wore a multitude of blankets; often 2 wool blankets, a Big D with hood and a New Zealand rug as well as shipping boots in order to stay warm in the winters. We used to call him 'our best dressed horse'.

The background is a picture of Beau running to greet us in his usual style. He would gallop up to us with his head and tail up and his ears pricked forward. When he wasn't ridden he could be found running loose, following his owners who were hiking or riding the trails.

Liisa riding Joseph Never Surrender
Appendix Quarter Horse

Joseph is pictured here at 3 years of age with Liisa riding. Joseph showed a lot of promise for a bright future.

Joseph loved to gallop down the trails. He would buck whenever he wanted to let everyone know that he was having a good time.

Kris riding Merlin with dogs Royal Shannons King Comet
American Saddlebred

Merlin has been trained in 3-day eventing and spent most of his life in the show ring. He was trained to pull the buggy and big sleigh but he loves to ride the trails and excels in Mounted Search and Rescue. Here he is with Kris riding accompanied by Brandy,a German Shepherd (who we lost a couple of years ago) and Bobby, a Rottwieller/Doberman.

Cera grazing Slightly Cool
Thoroughbred

Cera was raced in her younger days and when she came to us she had several issues which needed to be dealt with. To this day she is an unpredictable and unpleasant ride but she makes a wonderful broodmare. Her foals are easily trained and very curious. Peppy is one which is in training now.

Razkel Ali & Cera in trailer Stormy Red Sniper
Quarter Horse

Ali has been with us for many years and has proven herself as a broodmare. She has been trained to ride English, Western Pleasure and started Driving. Ali is the type of horse one can ride for hours and never feel sore because of her of smooth gaits. She passed this same gait onto Buffy. She has also passed on the curiousity and independence to all her foals.

Here she is traveling with Cera (in the front of the trailer) and her foal Razkel.

Keno Kris giving lesson on Keno Parlay Dancer
Thoroughbred (ex-racehorse)

Kris giving lessons on Parlay Dancer, better known as Keno. Keno is a rescue horse off the race track who arrived July 2000. He had a lot of issues we had to deal with but now he is used in Mounted Search & Rescue as well as a lesson horse for novice riders. Keno enjoys the rugged mountainous terrain (once he learned he had 4 feet).

Keno has now taken over the role of 'Uncle' to the young colts and fillies. He tolerates them rearing up onto him and will occasionally play with them, rearing high in the air to meet them, always watchful that he does not hurt them.

Keno will always try hard to please and once we had his issues dealt with, he became another horse. Click here if you are interested in Keno's Story.

Peppy ridden by Kris KH Highland Jewel
Appendix Quarter Horse

Peppy was born and raised on the ranch. Her dam is the alpha mare so Peppy spent her younger life bossing the herd around, or so she thought. Peppy came with us whenever she could on trail rides. She loved to explore and gained confidence when she had her buddy Buffy along.

Peppy was started this year and we are finding her a quick learner. She loves the added attention she is receiving.

Here is Peppy being ridden by Kris on her first Poker Ride.

Horses Sleeping Myth Behavin
Quarter Horse

Buffy was just started this year. She is another quick and willing learner and loves the extra attention given now.

Here Buffy is pictured with her half brother (Razkel), Alana, their dam and Peppy to the right. Buffy is only 2 years old here.

Razkel's First Trailer Ride Arazkis
Canadian Warmblood

Razkel took to his first trailer ride like everything else. His laid back style is pleasure to work with, as you can see by him lying down in the horse trailer. Sometimes it is hard to forget that he is only a yearling, especially when you stand beside him and he towers over you. He is loosing his foal coat to be replaced with a beautiful liver chestnut color as we can see by his head.

Razkel also thinks trailers are alright, especially when he gets tired, as you see by him trying to sleep in it, though he is getting a little large for that now.

Razkel has been known to jump 4 feet already and even 2½ foot high, 3 foot wide spreads uphill. He loves to play with 'Uncle' (Keno), rearing high in the air and spinning away to run in the other direction. Keno patiently waits for Razkel to attack him from another angle, and then will meet Razkel high in the air again.

Razkel's sire is Footloose, a Dutch Warmblood by Argus.

Keisha Anikeisha
Canadian Warmblood

Keisha is Razkel's full sister and has a intrepid personality. She boldly explores new sounds, smells and sights showing her independence. She holds a strong bond to her brother (Razkel) and ½ sisters (Buffy & Leah).

Keisha's sire is Footloose, by Argus also.

Leah Posing Leah
Canadian Warmblood

Leah is the youngest on the ranch right now and she is loved by everyone. She is often found curled up with Keisha, sometimes using Razkel's body as a pillow.

Leah's sire is Footloose by Argus as well.

Angel Angel
Morgan

Angel is a newly acquired 14 year old pony, standing about 14.2 hh. I will be using her for Search & Rescue, along with Keno and Buffy. She has been at the ranch for a short time and still has no confidence in herself or others. Angel is very shy and stoic while we groom her, but at the same time enjoys the attention.

We are confident she will excel in many disciplines once we start working with her.

Falin Falin
Welsh/Quarter Horse

Nine year old Falin has been with us for a short while. She is about 14 hh and has been started in reining. Falin will be used in Search & Rescue while we work on finding a good home for her. She loves people and is happy when she is pampered.
