Learning to ride was my dream when I was barely old enough to walk. I watched my older sister as she proudly took her lessons at a stable outside of Toronto. One day, I vowed, I would be as good as her. I spent hours during my youth learning; training with several clinicians, instructors and trainers in the Vancouver Area.
Our sister is now gone and with her is a vast amount of knowledge which she wanted to share with whomever would take the time to listen. I often think of the miles that separated us and think of all the knowledge we could have shared but now that is no longer possible. We must all continue with our own struggles and I hope that even just a couple of people will benefit from this site.
We still study and find new information, which we use when training our young horses. Every year we learn something new, most of which we have learned from just watching our horses and listening to others. Horses have been in our families blood for many generations and we enjoy our passion for them to this day.
We often have the chance to accept new challenges. AJ, who qualified for the 1994 BC Summer Games, was poisoned while on a lease to a Pony Club Instructor. Keno was destined for the slaughter house, and now is a favorite schooling and riding horse. He has been known to restore riders confidence after bad experiences on other horses. Buffy is a horse with excellent breeding, who has had the misfortune of losing her sight. She is still being ridden on a regular basis. Read up on these horses and our experiences with them, how we coped with their problems, on the Animal Rescue section of this sight.
At the request of the members of Search and Rescue, we organized the Prince George Mounted Search and Rescue Division. Although Search and Rescue (SAR) has been around for many years, Mounted Search and Rescue (MSAR) is new to British Columbia.
As we sit on the front porch and enjoy the sun setting through the trees, we reminisce on our experiences and activities. The covered porch overlooks some of the hay fields. We also enjoy sitting in the vast gardens, enjoying the tranquil sound of water running through the pond.
