Walker
Henry Miller in "The Rainbow" by A.E.Thomas
Note at end of week: Judging from the matinee Wednesday and the large sales reported today (Saturday), Henry Miller is a very great matinee favorite. Although he plays the part of a man in middle age, he is so handsome and magnetic that he is a popular idol. But, even he must admit, that the honors of his present play are divided with that dainty ingenue, Ruth Chatterton, who plays his little girl. Miss Chatterton looks the sweet maid of sixteen and acts with a rare naturalness and charm. The other ladies of the cast are also clever and good to look at, and all the men are capable.

"The Talker" an emotional drama in three parts, presented by The Permanent Players
Orpheum
John Marchand
- Miss Katheryn Kidder in her creation, "Madame Sans Gene" in "The Washerwoman Duchess."
Miss Kathryn Kidder, the distinguished American actress and the latest of the "legitimate" stars to essay vaudeville, is making her first trip over the Orpheum circuit. The Washerwoman Duchess is a clever, condensed version of (Sardou's?) greatest comedy masterpiece, "Madame Sans Gene." ...As a matter of fact, Miss Kidder produced the Sardou play in New York even before (Regane?) produced it in Paris. Few American actresses have had so varied and distinguished a career. For many years she has been a star of the first magnitude in a long list of important plays. John Marchand will be playing Napoleon to Mme Kidder.(see photo above) Miss Kidder is supported by a specially selected company of actors and a wonderfully mounted production.
- James J. Morton - The monologue comedian "Of Infinite Jest".
- Chung Wha Comedy Four - only Chinese exponents of comedy and fun. They sing both in English and Chinese, but their forté is American comedy, interpreted in their own Oriental way. They wear all sorts of costumes, including even the Highland kilts.
- Three Ellisons - In Longfellow's, "Village Blacksmith", to music. There is plenty of instrumental novelty to the act, including clever work on the xylophone and musical anvils. The act is said to be quite pretentious and cleverly staged.
- Rice-Sully-Scott - 'Fun on trampoline and bars'. They are atrio of funny and wonderfully lively men who dance and prance about and do many remarkable stunts on the trampoline and the rebounding elevated bars.
- Della Rosa and Marcello - Operatic singers, well known in Europe as 'The International Singers' are new to American vaudeville, having crossed the Atlantic for the first time this year. They have scored heavily in a peculiarly well-selected repertoire which includes the newest operatic hits. Mlle.Rosa is a soprona of magnificent voice, while Marcello has a baritone of great depth and feeling.
- Lowe and De Marl, also from Europe where they are well-known and popular, offer a novel acrobatic and gymnastic act that has all the finish expected of artists of that kind from theold country.
- New news pictures and the new program by the Orpheum concert orchestra complete the bill. The pictures, by the way, will be of exceptional interest, as they will show the notorious Harry K. Thaw in jail, and in the courtroom and about the streets of Coaticook and Sherbrooke, Quebec. (What the heck kind of footage would all that be -stills I guess)
Empress
Court by Girls
Laughter is the foundation of (this) week's Empress bill - a roadshow, by the way. Every act has been built on mirth and merriment. Summed up, they are:
- "Court by Girls" - a modern musical comedy. (see photo above) It is a modern adaption of Gilbert and Sullivan by Thomas Gray and Max Witt, who utilize the present feminist movement as the busts of the farces and by the addition of up-to-the-minute comedy, (catch?) and tinkling music, with a host of clever and pretty girls, they have created a musical comedy production that is delightfully humorous. The scene is the court of (--?) and one is forced to smile when glancing over the musical numbers. Here they are:
- Opening Ensemble company
- "Lonely Land" the Plaintiff and Jury
- Popular Song, 4 Jury Girls
- The Courthouse Glide, District Attorney (assisted by Council and Jury)
- "That Dance" the Plaintiff
- Finale Entire company
- "The Bathroom Mystery" - The Lester Trio in a funny farce. The scene of the playlet is laid in the house of Mrs. Softly in one of the apartments which adjoins the bathroom, and what takes place in the bath is the mystery of the play. The situations are droll and novel.
- "In Those Days" or "On With the Dance" - (Andru)Lewis and (Helen)Norton in a sketch which bubbles over with good-natured raillery.
- Campbell and Campbell - two charming girls who mingle comedy with melody.Louise and Clara Campbell are natives of Virginia, and for the past six years have studied music in the best conservatories of Europe, though they are as good in"coon" specialties and ragtime as in the classical selections. They are filled with youthful enthusiasm.
- 'Three Furiously Funny Fellows' - Three of the most "artistic" of the foolish fellows in vaudeville are Maglin, Eddy and Roy who will amuse Empress patrons by their humorous and clever pantomime. Ralph Maglin and Harvey Roy both served a long and arduous apprenticeship in the Drury Lane theatre at the varied Christmas spectacles.Bob Eddy was the chief clown with Barnum and Bailey for three years.
