Orpheum

   Valerie Serice

  • One of the season's important musical tabloids - Jesse L. Lasky's, "The Little Parisienne". An impressive array of talent was required for the writing of the book and composition of the score, those who accomplished it being:
    • Wm. Le Baron
    • Cecil De Mille
    • Deems Taylor
    • Robert Hood Bowers
In the title part Miss Valerie Serice is most happily cast, from the standpoint of both type and ability. A number of clever young women assist her and the staging and costuming are of a most attractive kind.
  • Hoey and Lee might be called opportunists as well as "character Parodists" as by which designation they are known on the billboards. They are stage charicatures, who take advantage of whatever may be the trend of popular thought at a given moment, and make vastly interesting travesty  material of it.
  • An extraordinary sketch is "The Devil's Mate" featuring Wallace Clark, who will be remembered for his "Scrooge" some time ago at the Orpheum. The sketch, written and staged by Stanley Cooke, shows a young man driven to the verge of suicide to whom the devil suddenly appears, offering to play him a game of chess with the yung man's life as a stake. The game proceeds, and, by means of a clever electrical system, the audience is enabled to see every move in the game, which presents a most intriguing problem.
  • Delmore and Light -singing and playing
  • The Great Welland and his attractive partner, Mlle. Carlotta offer something new in juggling. They come directly to winnipeg from a long run at the Palace theatre in London. Their really extraordinary ability as jugglers is interwoven with genuine comedy.
  • Ethel MacDonough, -singer of popular songs
  • Juggling Millers in rapid fire work
  • Orpheum Concert orchestra
  • News Views
  • ladies daily souvenir matinee

Empress

The Seven Bracks

  • "Seven Scions of Sensationalism,"- The Seven Bracks, a septet of fine Risley athletes who perform the most hair-raising feats. It is only in the past two decades that Risley work orfoot work has reached its present stage of perfection as exemplified by the Bracks. For more than two years this clever company appeared at the Berlin winter garden. The costumes of the Bracks are unusually extensive, for they make the proud boast that during an entire week's engagement it is not neesary for them to wear a costume more than once.

  When Women Rule

  • "When Women Rule" by Ned J. Heaney; Roland West announces- a timely satire in this day of the militant suffragette. It gives an insight from the playright's point of view, of what the world is going to come to in, say, the year 2013, Starring:
    • Louise Ripley
    • Helen Bick
    • William Bauman
    • Clay Cody
  • Early and Byall, vocalists - 'A Dozen Minutes of Smiles and Song'
  • The Lee Brothers in a nimble heeled oddity
  • Aubrey Pringle and Violet Allen in the funny farce, "Keeping an Appointment"

Clark and Adler

  • Paul Kleist and company in "The Land of Dreams", a European novelty. Musical selections are rendered with charming effect, while the black and white stage trickery feats of novel creations are presented. His wonderful battle between the airship and the battleship is symbolic of future possible warfare and is a delight to the young and old.
  • Delevoye and Frits' comedy acrobatics occur around a trick house that takes up the whole stage.
  • Billie Clark and Flo Adler furnish one of those "mile a minute acts" and are some noise. Their talk is of the race horse kind. The lines are full of clever sayings and laughable situations. They are two of vaudeville's classiest entertainers.
  • Francis Gerard, singing and talking comedienne, who will please the female portion of the audience.
  • 5 Reels of First Run Pictures:
    • "The Diamond Mystery" -apowerful love story in two reels (Vitagraph)
    • "Taming the Tenderfoot -western comedy 9Selig)

In the early morning hours on Sunday, the big Sells-Floto circus will arrive from the west and proceed to pitch its huge tent on the regular circus lot out at Happyland. Then on Monday morning the parade will come down through the principal streets. This is the fourth season the Sells-Floto has visited Winnipeg.

To those who have never seen a circus in the course of construction, it is a liberal education for those who may have time to journey outto the circus lot and watch a canvas city spring into being in such a short space of time that the average person cannot but wonder at the marvellous organization which directs their movements. The Sells-Floto people are always glad to entertain visitors especially people who are interested in horses and it is really a treat to see the beautiful animals carried by this aggregation.

The Sells-Floto circus will give two performances each day at 2 and 8 p.m. For special features this season and in addition to the ordinary conventional ones which are part and parcel of the circus from time immemorial, they offer a thrilling animal act in which lions and tigers perform in the same arena under the direction of Margaret Recardo; the Devlin Zouaves, and to have no superiors in the art of military manoeuvring; Lucia Zorra, presenting the greatest herd of traineed elephants; the Australian Bushmen, seen for the first time in this country; the Rhoda Royal Highscool horses;the Stickney sisters, champion equestriennes;the Lowendes, the Hobsons, Miss Royal, Maud Burbank, Teddy Millett, Irene Montgomery, Leo Hamilton, greatest of high-jumping riders; Tex McLeod, champion trick and fancy roper of the world; and many other stars in aerial or acrobatic lines, together with the army of clowns for which the Sells-floto circus has been famous.
