A series of six illustrated talks Tuesday evenings, 7-9pm through the
University of Victoria,
Continuing Studies Department. January 26th to March 2nd . Price is $95.
Settle in for some wintertime story telling - from the adventures of our
pioneers, shipwrecks, mermaids, and lighthouses, to the British Navy and
First Nations; all part of the fascinating and little known history of our
area. Terri's family have lived on Vancouver Island since 1851. Terri Hunter is
a member of WHN/BC.

A series of four illustrated talks Friday mornings 10-11:30am at the
Monterey Centre in Oak Bay, January 29th to February 19th. The centre
adjoins the Oak Bay Library. Price is $49 members $57non members. Come and meet
the people so often in the news, the Palestinians, in this exploration of their
vibrant ethnic identity through the history of the Middle East.
Terri is an anthropoligist who lived in the Middle East, including Gaza.

Collection of Joan Kennedy memorabilia. Joan Kennedy was the main organizer
of the British Columbia Women's Service Corps in 1939, a model for the
Canadian Women's Army Corps. Open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 9am to noon.

CFB Esquimalt Naval & Military Museum, at Naden, CFB Esquimalt
CFB Esquimalt Naval & Military Museum has a project collecting information about
women who served in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) during
World War II.

PERSONS DAY, OCTOBER, 2009 The Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case were announced in October, 2009. Five awards, and one Youth award, are made annually. Website: Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case | Status of Women Canada
Person’s Day commemorates the successful conclusion of the ‘Persons Case’ in
1929—which decided that Canadian women were declared persons under the law and
thus eligible for appointment to the Senate in Canada. Five Canadian women - the
‘Famous Five’- took this case to its conclusion: Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir
Edwards, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby, and Nellie McClung.
