    Blairmore (West Sector) Integrated Site

City Council has approved the concept plan for the West Sector Multi-District Park/School Site.

A public information meeting will be held to update area residents on the status of the various projects for this area. At the public information meeting, the City will be able to go into more detail as to what the facility might look like when it is finished. Please check back for a confirmed date and time.

The integrated site will include the Saskatoon Public School Division Tommy Douglas Collegiate, the Saskatoon Catholic Schools Bethlehem High School, and a civic leisure and recreation facility.

The multi-district park program components will include sports fields, pathways, open green space, and a future skateboard park.

The leisure and recreation facility components for the site will include a gymnasium, multipurpose room, fitness/weight room, childminding room, cafeteria/servery, commons area, and a 50-meter competitive pool and a leisure/warm up pool.

The Library Board has also confirmed their intent to build a regional library on this site albeit at some unspecified date into the future.

The Tommy Douglas Collegiate and Bethlehem High School detailed design is well under way and plans are to begin construction on the site in 2006 with both schools planned to open in September 2007.

City Council has also approved the design and construction timeframe for civic component of this project, which will occur in two phases.

Phase 1 will include a gymnasium, weight room, commons area, childminding area, change room, and administrative services.

Phase 2 of the project will include the remainder of fitness/weight room, 50 metre competitive pool and leisure/warm-up pool, multipurpose room, connecting corridor between schools, remaining change rooms, and café/servery area.

Phase I will proceed with design in 2005 and construction in 2006/2007 and phase 2 will proceed with the design in 2006, construction in 2007, and opening in 2008. The following schematic drawing will give you some idea how the new facility might look when the entire project is completed (click to enlarge).

Annual Soccer Tournament/Fun Day in the Park

Our annual fun day was held on June 18, 2005 and although we had a lot of rain the day before and the fields were quite wet, the weather was wonderful and we had a large turnout. The children enjoyed carnival games and our concession was very popular.

Many Thanks to our Sponsors: Canada Bread, SaskTel, The Farm and Garden Centre, Westview Foods, Ruckers, Fun Factory, TJ's Pizza and Burger King.

    Selkirk Crescent Block Party

A big Thank You and round of applause to Wendy and Dave Weigel for organizing the recent annual block party. They spent many hours getting permits, supplies, etc. Wendy sautéed a big pot full of onions and Dave made some delicious sauerkraut for the dogs and burgers. There was free popcorn and drinks for the kids.
Thank you to the ladies who brought goodies for dessert. Thank you to Michelle for filling balloons with water for the kids who attended.
A large number of block residents missed a good time and good food. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other block residents and in recent years we have had a large turn over of block residents. The event is “non-profit” with sale of dogs and burgers expected to pay other expenses. We hope the event can continue annually but for that we need more support and attendance. See you next year!

    Jacob Berg
    Block Resident

    Westview Star

Our Karaoke singing competition was a great success! People of all ages from all over Saskatchewan performed each Friday night last winter from January to April. On April 29th, our Mayor Don Atchison was in attendance as our Westview Star was chosen, Kailey Hudon!

Public Consultation: ...reduce the risk of future flooding

In October, 2005 the City of Saskatoon held public meetings to give citizens general home flood proofing tips and give information about what the City has planned to reduce flooding in the future.

The presentation was part of the City's review of its Sewer Policy and Bylaw, which began in July 2004.

On June 29, Saskatoon experienced a severe rainstorm that flooded many homes and businesses. The City of Saskatoon is working to develop both short and long-term programs to reduce the risk of flooding.

If you would like more information regarding the City's Sewer Policy and Bylaw call 975-2454 or visit the City's Basement Flooding info page.
