History
Established in 1980, WeeRuffians is the oldest, active Lakeland
breeding kennel in Canada. We have produced numerous champions and dogs
of our breeding have consistently achieved National Ranking under Canada’s
Top Show Dog system. We are proud to have bred Canada’s Top Terrier
and #3 All Breed Dog in 1991, Ch. WeeRuffians Jumpin Jack Flash
(Winston). A multiple Best in show winner, Winston held championship
titles in three countries, Canada, the U.S. and Bermuda, and remains one
of the all time winning Terriers in Canadian history. He has passed on
his wonderful conformation and exceptional temperament to generations of
offspring.

Breeding Practices
Because we believe every puppy deserves individualized care, we breed on a limited
scale, averaging two litters per year. Our policy is to breed only those dogs that are
stable in temperament, healthy and free from known genetic disorders. All breeding dogs
undergo genetic screening for disorders that are prevalent in the breed. In an effort to
widen our gene pool, we have imported much of our breeding stock from England.
Puppies
While we do not breed specifically for the pet market, we occasionally
have puppies available for sale to approved homes. All puppies are lovingly raised and
socialized in our home with much handling and human contact. They receive a high quality
diet, necessary veterinary care and are vaccinated against communicable diseases. By the
time a puppy leaves our premises, it has received early training in walking on a lead,
sleeping in a crate, grooming, and some housebreaking. The welfare of our puppies is our
first priority and we reserve the right to refuse to place a puppy in a home we believe to
be unsuitable. No puppy will be placed prior to the age of 8 weeks.

Selling Practices
All WeeRuffians puppies are sold with a written Health and Temperament guarantee and a
sales agreement outlining the responsibilities of the purchaser, the breeder and the
details of the sale. All dogs are CKC registered and sold under the terms of the Canadian
Kennel Club Non-Breeding Agreement. Puppies and dogs that are sold as pet stock are sold
under a separate Spay/Neuter agreement. Because of the unavailability of puppies, it may
be necessary for prospective purchasers to place their names on a waiting list.
Visiting Our Kennel
Prospective purchasers are welcome to visit our premises and view our dogs by
appointment. Because of the risk of disease, we ask that you do not come directly from
another kennel. Please ensure that children are well supervised and that all gates and
doors are kept closed. Children will not be allowed to pick up puppies.
On your initial visit, we will provide specific information about the breed and will
require that you complete a questionnaire. Your detailed answers will allow us to choose
the puppy that is just right for your situation. Should you decide against the Lakeland or
should we determine that the breed is inappropriate for your lifestyle, we will be happy
to suggest alternatives and to recommend breeders.
Continuing Support
In addition to a Care Guide and other information that will be provided with your
puppy, we will be available to answer questions and offer guidance. Our responsibility as
breeders and our commitment to each puppy does not end when it leaves our premises. It
will always be a WeeRuffian and we will be forever interested in its welfare. |
