The following recs are just a teensy sampling of the immense goodness to be found in the Smallville fandom.  For a more comprehensive list (and a comprehensive guide to the fandom!), check out svmadelyn's Medication for Sleep Deprivation.  While I love and appreciate many of the darker fics in Smallville, I have a predilection for humourous stories, and that shows here.

So, click your alliterative mood, and dig deep.  This is a delectable fandom.

Silly

Silly!fic has a special place in my heart, since I rarely enjoy stories (fanfic or original) that don't engage my sense of humour in some way.  Humour is not easy to write, but these people write it extremely well.

Tight Fit ~ R ~ iykwim

I'm a teensy bit biased about this fic, since I beta'ed it and the author is one of my bestest friends...but she has a killer sense of humour, and it shines through in this little ficlet.  Basically, an origin story for Superman's costume.

Switch: A Comedy of Terrors ~ NC17 ~ RivkaT

The very first SV fic I wrote was based on this premise, and it was atrocious.  When I discovered RivkaT's version, I was delighted -- a body-swap story that we all wish we'd seen on the show!

Unlike Dead Butterflies ~ R ~ Thamiris

Once upon a time, I had planned to make an entire recs page just including fics that had fart humour.  This was on the list, but don't let you put that off.  It's Pete/Lana, it's got Clex, and it has fart jokes.  On top of all that, it's a breathtaking look at Lana's character.

Asset Management and The Scientific Method ~ NC17 ~ Lenore

I've seen this diptych recommended everywhere, but I love a good comic story, and this series is hilarious.  Lex helps Clark deal with his alien anatomical differences.

Oh Baby ~ R ~ Caroline Baker

Can't really say much about this one without ruining it.  But you'll break something laughing.

A Clark/Lex Epic of Staggering Genius ~ R ~ Punk / Tiffany Rawlins

A po-mo Clexian classic.

Two Names ~ PG13 ~ dogpoet ***SV RPS***

Also made it onto my list of fart!fics.  Again, don't hold it against the fic!  It's lovely and funny and, anyway, it's canon that Michael Rosenbaum farts on set.  But it's also RPS, so be aware of that before you click.

Adaptability ~ R ~ Prufrock

We all know that Superman, aka Clark, is supposed to be this huge genius, but more often than not, Smallville Clark sort of comes off as a big dumb alien.  However, he's a very pretty dumb alien, which is why Lex keeps him around, I suppose.  At least, that's the reason in this fic.

And They All Lived Happily Ever After ~ R ~ LastScorpion

Don't let the pairing (Lana/Lionel) fool you - this is a marvelous and marvelously funny fic.  You might even find yourself rooting for Lionel and Lana by the end.

The Lost Bizarre Ass Rituals of a Kryptonian Boy ~ NC17 ~ Beth

I'm a sucker for a title like that.  Plus!  Fart humour!

Lex Luthor and the Turkey From Hell ~ PG13 ~ Nansi Alexander

Nansi keeps me giggling on LJ, and this Thanksgiving fic, which she reposted for those of us who must have missed it the first time, is just diabolically funny.

Trumpets and Truckhorns ~ PG13 ~ Cleo

In case you haven't already figured it out, I'm actually four.  But -- but -- FARTS!  *cracks up*

Sad

As you can see, my offerings here are slim.  I'm not a 'woe!' kind of person, so believe me when I say these fics are extraordinary in their ability to make me all angsty.

Yellow Means Slow ~ R ~ Prufrock

WARNING: Do not read this fic unless you're prepared.  You need kleenex and possibly strong anti-depressants.  The first time I read this, I was about 3 episodes into the fandom, and I shrugged and agreed with my friend that it was well-written.  The second time, about a year later, I cried.  By myself.  In front of my computer.  I NEVER CRY.  Enough said.

This, Too ~ NC17 ~ Prufrock and Jenn

Normally, hurty and dark Clex is not my thing.  I'm more of a sunshine and roses kind of reader.  But, I've found, if you combine amazing writing, strong narrative voice, and - oh yeah - craploads of explicit sex, I'm yours.  I'm easy that way.

How To Be Grieved ~ R ~ Prufrock

From the How To Be series (found on Prufrock's website).  Lex is sad, and then I am too.

Smutty

When you feel like reading something really dirty and hot, nothing satisfies like these fics.

Jilling and Inhale ~ NC17 ~ Te

Te writes sex that makes the keyboard melt.  This series of two ficlets concentrates on Chloe and Clark, and it's searing.

Driving With Crocodile Shoes ~ NC17 ~ Thamiris

A missing scene fic from Redux.  Rich Lex characterization is my favorite thing about Thamiris's Smallville writing, and this one has it in spades.

Stapling Clark ~ NC17 ~ Stone Princess

This one straddles the line between humour and smuttiness, but I thought I'd beef up my smut section a bit.

Silk ~ NC17 ~ Jenn

Just a little fic that, for some reason, never fails to turn me inside out.

Sweet

Sometimes you just want a little schmoop.

Super Bullet Sneeze ~ G ~ Bexless

Baby Clark and Baby Pete.  They must have been hell on the furniture.

It Came Just the Same ~ G ~ Lanning

In case you're a blazing newbie or you've been under a rock, you should read Lanning's Identical Series. And even if you haven't read it yet, you have to read this fic because it has Clark, Lex, and Dr. Seuss.

Small Favors ~ PG ~ Ingrid

AU.  Lex has a baby.  There are several more of these in the series, so drift through Ingrid's memories if you're patient enough, and you can enjoy the lot of them.

Mornings and Nights ~ PG13 ~ Jessica

Jess has written a whole kid!fic universe, but this one in particular sticks with me.

The Milk and Cookies War ~ PG ~ Punk

I love looking at Clark through Lex's eyes, especially when Punk's in the driver's seat.

Smart

I'm a painfully improvisational kind of writer, so I'm always in awe of people who clearly *plan* their stories, and even research them.  I love AUs especially, and nothing makes me happier than a really brilliant premise for one.

Mercy ~ NC17 ~ Koi

An original and expertly-executed premise: Lex discovers Clark's secret and reacts in a completely unexpected way.

Thebes ~ R ~ Hope

Wonderful woman that she is, Nerodi once issued an historical Clex challenge, and this is just one of the many brilliant fics that emerged in response.

Of Sun, War, and Cicadas ~ NC17 ~ Thamiris

Thamiris interweaves mythology and her plotline so that neither emerges unchanged by the end of the story.

Stunning

These are mostly, but not all, novel-length fics.  Consider this my desert-island Clex collection.

Schmoop ~ NC17 ~ Caroline Baker

Caroline Baker doesn't get pimped *nearly* enough, and I'm out to change that.  Though she's not very active in the fandom anymore, she wrote some really incredible SV fic in the early days of the show.  This fic, her longest, ships Whitney and Clark based on only the first few episodes of season one.  Her style is sparse and cinematic, but it's the realism of her story and her characters that draws you in.  There's even a hint of the Clex for all those hardcore OTPers.

Meanwhile, Back In Metropolis ~ NC17 ~ Punk

Every single damn thing on Punk's site is bloody marvelous.  I very often drop by just to reread voraciously and marvel at her talent.  While there are many fine writers in this world, there are a few who carry their craft to another level, and Punk is one of them.  This particular fic is fun, punchy, sexy, and has a Lois to die for.  Oh, and she pulls the whole thing off in 2nd person. *worships quietly*

Billy Swanson ~ NC17 ~ Lenore

Lenore is another writer whose entire body of work is consistently engaging.  This particular fic lures me in over and over, and I think it has everything to do with that opening: "Clark's mother once told him about a boy who had a crush on her in high school. It wasn't a life lesson the way his father's stories usually were, just one of the stray reminiscences she would toss out sometimes when she was feeling a little nostalgic."  Plus, she makes Clark/Lana really really hot.  You've got to respect that.

The Road Not Taken ~ NC17 ~ Joyfulgirl41

Deliciously lengthy and a very clever AU, but spiced with great characterization and sparkling humour.  Somuchlove.

Card One: The Fool - One Man's Journey ~ NC17 ~ Mistress Ace

As a writer who has to fight to get inside Lex's head, this novel-length fic amazes me with its Lex point-of-view.  It starts off as a take on the 'pretending to be gay' premise and becomes so much more.

Somewhere I Have Never Travelled ~ NC17 ~ Jenn

Huge and meaty series of novellas in which Clark becomes human - which is where you might think the interesting bits of Smallville would end, but Jenn proves that it can be a hell of a beginning.

Conflicts of Interest ~ R ~ Prufrock

Hands down, the best kid's POV fic I have ever read, fanfic or original.  Pru's Conner is a latterday Ramona Quimby, but with two really hot dads.  Killer humour combined with a beautiful character arc for Conner.
