outline

Even though this is probably kind of snooze-worthy, I had to include it so people could be properly horrified at my planning process.  Yep, this is what I got my plot from -- an MSN conversation with sparktastic back when I'd written about two or three parts.  And I'd already started posting.

My favorite part is that the entire Cadmus/evil!Lex subplot is here referred to as "the alien thing".

sparktastic says:

Well, what needs to happen next?

rose_emily says:

Well ...

rose_emily says:

I guess I need to set up some initial awkwardness with Clark and Lex.

sparktastic says:

Right, got some of that.

sparktastic says:

Oooh, booze.

sparktastic says:

Clark comes back to find Lex drunk.

rose_emily says:

I want Clark to have motivation to befriend Lex ... namely, he needs to feel more comfortable in his own home.

rose_emily says:

haha.

rose_emily says:

drunken Lex.

rose_emily says:

maybe later.

rose_emily says:

first I want the discomfort of unfamiliarity.

rose_emily says:

Then, the real friendship -- Lex needs to discover that he can *really* trust Clark.

sparktastic says:

Right.

sparktastic says:

Sounds good.

rose_emily says:

Then increasing sexual tension and that sort of goodness.

rose_emily says:

all Clark's pov.

rose_emily says:

Then Clark goes home for Xmas and Lex comes with.

rose_emily says:

sort of -- stays in his mansion.

rose_emily says:

Over Xmas, the crap factory (owned by LuthorCorp) gets into financial trouble and Lionel shuts it down.

sparktastic says:

ooo

rose_emily says:

This leaves Chloe (former love of Clark's life) a very unhappy girl.

rose_emily says:

Clark, unable to speak to her still, realizes he can still help.

rose_emily says:

Goes to Lex, who orchestrates an employee buyout.

rose_emily says:

Lex lets Clark think that it's a smart decision financially, when really it's a bit of a rish.

rose_emily says:

riskkkk.

rose_emily says:

but he does it b/c he loves his clarkywarky.

rose_emily says:

who, in turn, loves Chloe.

sparktastic says:

awwwwwwww

rose_emily says:

Sort of.

sparktastic says:

baby

rose_emily says:

Clark's more with the residual guilt than the actual love for Chloe now.

rose_emily says:

But I don't think Lex realizes that.

rose_emily says:

Anyway, yay and goodness and back to school.

sparktastic says:

Awww, honey!

rose_emily says:

Just before reading break hits (or whatever it's called there) ...

rose_emily says:

Clark gets the phone call from Chloe.

rose_emily says:

"I'm only calling because I figure I owe you one.  My cousin Lois is about to break a story that concerns you.'

rose_emily says:

And maybe Clark could have recently done a dramatic rescue of some sort so he freaks and thinks that's what Chloe means.

rose_emily says:

then Chloe's all, "No, stupid.  She figure out that you're married."

sparktastic says:

omg

rose_emily says:

So Clark gives Lex the heads up and they boot it out of town.

rose_emily says:

Lex is all, "This wasn't part of the deal, I'll understand if you want to back out."

rose_emily says:

And Clark is all, "No way, dude."

rose_emily says:

So they spend a week in some getaway, Clark tells his parents the truth.

rose_emily says:

perhaps the Clex should visit the farm at this point -- fun with Lex and Bo.

sparktastic says:

oooo

rose_emily says:

Once they get back to Metropolis, shit just keeps building up -- all Clark's classmates and friends are either obnoxious or angry or both.

rose_emily says:

And Lionel seems to be digging around to prove that Lex and Clark aren't *really* married.

rose_emily says:

So they're forced to play the part, go out in public together and turn Clark's bedroom into a study just in case someone checks.

rose_emily says:

It's all building and building towards Lionel royally fucking Lex over.

rose_emily says:

Then Lionel has a heart attack and dies.

sparktastic says:

Ah.

sparktastic says:

Kewl.

rose_emily says:

Leaving LuthorCorp to Lex and a trust fund to Lucas.

rose_emily says:

Lex is all grieve-y and angry and untouchable and then we get the Muriel's Wedding stuff with the comfort sex.

sparktastic says:

Ah.

sparktastic says:

Excellent.

rose_emily says:

Then the awkward morning after, when Lex assumes that Clark was just being consoling and Clark feels guilty for taking advantage.

rose_emily says:

I think the marriage might effectively break up over this.

rose_emily says:

Lex moves into the penthouse -- no need to play married anymore.

rose_emily says:

And Clark stays in the apartment and goes to school.

sparktastic says:

Awww, no!

rose_emily says:

Then, Clark gets his scholarship cheque in the mail.

rose_emily says:

and it's for $30 million.

sparktastic says:

OMG.

sparktastic says:

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

rose_emily says:

Should I be working in the alien thing here somewhere?

rose_emily says:

Sort of ... non existent right now.

rose_emily says:

he could just be Pete, for all we care.

sparktastic says:

Hmmm.

rose_emily says:

Anyway, Clark -- of course -- is outraged and hurt and pissed off as all get out.

rose_emily says:

So he storms Lex's office and tears up the cheque in front of him.

rose_emily says:

Lex tries really hard to be distant and calm but he can't be, because he sees how worked up Clark is.

sparktastic says:

Awwww, woobies!

rose_emily says:

Basically wants to know *why* Clark is so upset.

rose_emily says:

Clark tells him to go to hell and storms out.

sparktastic says:

Aw, Clark, come back!

rose_emily says:

He goes back to the farm and spends a few weeks amidst the hay, etc.

sparktastic says:

awww

rose_emily says:

He gets another letter from LexCorp, expecting it to be the annullment/divorce papers.

rose_emily says:

Instead, it's a note ... says, "Come to such and such a place on such and such a day."

rose_emily says:

It's their anniversary.

rose_emily says:

So Clark goes.

sparktastic says:

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!

rose_emily says:

and Lex is there and he's all apologetic -- he's had time to figure out that Clark wasn't really pitying him on the night of Lionel's funeral.

rose_emily says:

And that offering him the money was a giant slap in the face.

sparktastic says:

awww.

rose_emily says:

So they have dinner and Lex says sorry and Clark says sorry and then Lex gives him a choice -- divorce papers and friendship or they stay married.

rose_emily says:

I don't know if this is exactly how it'll play out.

rose_emily says:

But lalala they're happy and they stay married the end.

Oh yeah.  And I got the idea for the fic watching the movie Muriel's Wedding on New Year's Eve, getting progressively more pissed until I actually thought I could write the idea that night.  Luckily, I passed out before I could thus humiliate myself.
