I was working in Dugway, Utah for 6 weeks. Jim and Mel (from DRES) who had both
hiked up Deseret Peak once before, on a previous trip, suggested that this would
be a fun thing to do. So, on our first free weekend, we loaded up the truck and took
off for the mountain.
At 11,031 feet, Deseret Peak is
the 15th highest mountain in Utah. It is the highest in Tooele County. This is what it
looks like from the top. Looking north from the peak.

The hike starts out in dry dusty conditions, desert-like.
This picture is taken from Dugway on the west side to Deseret Peak. The clouds
have moved in, and fresh snow covers the peak. This photo was taken 4 weeks
after we hiked it.

As you get higher, you leave the desert dryness, and enter a lush green mountain
meadow.
Laurie and Mel are repacking their cameras after a photo session.

Nearing the top we ran into some large fields of snow,
protected from the sun. Warren felt the
handstand was compulsory.
Mel observed.

Here are
Laurie, Mel and
Jim on the
peak. We
rested for about
20 minutes, and
then took an
alternate route
down. Going
down was
rough on your
toes.
