The story of Dave, VE7TWO as told by his daughter Tricia.
Dave calls himself Two on the Isle when he's writing his Static articles for our club newsletter and here's why. Whether Dave is climbing to the top of Mt. Benson, or Mt. Washington, he's usually got his ham radio and is searching for that ever elusive fluke contact made on his handheld. Dave isn't an extremely athletic kind of person, but he can hold his own on a seven hour hike up and down Mt. Benson. In fact I'd say he's probably in better shape than he seems.

As you can see from this photo the man can shovel snow. This particular snowfall was one of the heaviest we've ever had here in Nanaimo. You're probably thinking why not just leave the snow? Well, his Blazer is good, but I'm not sure I'd say it was that good.

Computers seem to be something no one can get away from these days. Dave is no exception. Actually, in a way he is an exception because he's been into computers for an exceptionally long time and has based his whole career on them. This picture was taken at 1999's Canada day Contest at Loyd, VE7FCO's QTH. As you can see computers are used to enter data from QSL's for the contest. It's actually quite a neat program because it will tell you if you've already made that contact or not.

Another of Dave's favorite hangouts is the
Uclulet/Long Beach/Tofino area of the island. Here we see Dave in the observation area at the Wikaninnish Centre. There is also an absolutely marvelous restaurant on litterally the edge of the Pacific Ocean. You can't beat those waves even if it's not a good place for antenna waves. A handheld isn't the greatest for that area even though he has made the occasional local contact.

So that's the really quick version of Dave, VE7TWO on the Isle. Warp two is cruising speed and right now life on our island is matching that pace. Hey, did you notice the links on this page? Like Dave's humor, the links are purposfully subtle.
