My VW HOMEPAGE

This page will give a little bit of information about the early 55 beetle we purchsed,a long long long time ago that is finally starting to get some attention:)

Originally we had planned a stock restoration. As time went by we decided that some more Hp was a definate must. As the plan is right now we would like a stock looking car with the added performance of a larger engine and beefed up transmission. Most, if not all, tech related questions come from the great guys at Airspeed.

Below are some pictures from the day we brought it home.

Our car "Bailey"actually sat in storage for 3 years before we finally bought a house. Yes, priorities are slowing this project down a lot!

Within a few days of moving into our new home the beetle was towed to our garage and the work began. First we stripped everything off the car to remove the body.

After having the pan blasted we found alot of rust perforations in the metal on one side. We decided to replace one pan half. At the time I did not realize the difference between aftermarket and original pans halves. Now I do! You can clearly see the difference between the two sides. With that being said.. when the pan is rolling with the body on it only the most picky of people will ever notice. We had the pan sandblasted and powdercoated by Frances Andrew site furnishings. This is how it looked when it came home again. Nice work!!! Sure is satisfying to see such a transformation. We opted to paint the pan in a champange colour with a clearcoat rathar than the regular black everyone seems to use.

The pan reassemble has finally started. We want a larger engine so this means we need to have a transmission that can take some abuse. This meant replacing the splitcase transmission with a later style tunnel transmission. In order for this conversion to work without modifying the pan you have to use a type 2 nosecone and hockey stick on the front of the transmission in order to mate them. The transmission, backing plates and axle tubes have all been powdercoated as well. The pics i have now posted are the last upto date ones i have.We are currently waiting on a narrowed front beam then will add a CB Performance disc brake kit.The pan just seems to be a clutter zone for me(mental note remember to keep it tidy)

Well it has been awhile since I have updated the webpage. When I last left you I was saving for the front diskbrake kit along with a narrowed beam. Lo and behold... the day finally arrived that I was able to buy what I needed and in a few short hours, I had a rolling pan.

They say pictures are worth a thousand words but these are worth just two "BODY WORK".

Sometime in the coming weeks Matt will come by and pull out the collision damage that has been inflicted upon the car:( the actual body work may not start until later in the summer.

This is where Matt will transform this ugly bug (with a beauty of a rolling chassis) into the classic beetle it was meant to be. Matt does primarily metal work and body work but does not have access to a spray booth, but he can have your car in high solids and ready for paint. He can always be found on the airspeed forums (ok not as much as James B)

i have to get better at updating this page.Matt did in fact come by ages ago to pull the collision damage out,i am starting to make a page dedicated strictly to the body HERE.The pan is now fully complete except the engine the front end consists of narrowed front beam, narrowed sway bar,new shocks and all new brake lines.
