Main / Vanity Plates |
Since the turn of the 20th century, when automobiles were invented, governments started issuing license certificates to the vehicles' owners. This eventually led to them being displayed on cars as metal plates with the certificate "number" displayed for easy identification by police and others. These days license plates come in different shapes and sizes and with various schemes for how they are numbered.
In this web site you will find some interesting things about license plates. Below, on this page, is a collection of personal license plates that I have "seen" (I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canda). Some people are pretty creative as there are some pretty amusing plates (e.g. "6 S" = Success). The following are other license plates links on this web site:

Personal ("Vanity") Plates
| In the early 1980's the Alberta Government (in Canada) introduced "personal" plates. For a fee you are permitted to pick what you want to put on your plate as long as you are within certain guidelines (e.g. no profanity). In 1987 I picked "111" as my personal plate. | ![]() |
Recently I noticed a lot more people with such plates. Here are some of the ones I have sighted. If you have other interpretations of these, please send me an email about it. Last Updated: 1998/Nov/13.
