Woodlands Memorial Gardens
& Riverview Hospital
Upon reading this blog entry by Matt Good, McConnell and I were horrified to learn of the
mistreatment of the mentally ill in these institutions that exist so close to where we live.
Give the article a read. Here are pictures from the garden and the eerie ones from the largely
abandoned, but still functional, Riverview site.

The almost tacky signage for the condo development just across from the gardens.
The walls were embedded with the mostly discarded headstones that were discovered
after Woodlands was shut down.
The words at the foot of the stone.
She died 27 years before I was born.

The recorded deaths within the hospital.
Hidden under the long branches of a tree, we found a few of the original headstones.
The construction just across the way.
What resides directly across from the previous picture.
The reflective stone, revealing the construction in the background.
One of the abandoned/condemned buildings at Riverview, a still-active site.
The grounds are huge, but mostly filled with old, poorly maintained buildings.
Patients of Riverview still live there in small, cottage-like houses.
Eerie words smeared on the windows of the building.
The abandonded buildings are now used in movie/TV productions.

A peak inside one of the windows. It was kinda creepy looking in them.
The final picture I took before we were chased away by an old lady security guard.
Apparently, we were trespassing (and techincally weren't allowed to take pictures,
although she didn't catch us doing that--REBELS), so we left. Well, high-tailed it. Hehee.
