Third World Mind
A chime cries out as it's
beaten by the wind,
__________but I do nothing.
_____________ I ignore the obvious.
Sleep stretches across
my eyes,
stinging as it begs,
_________but I am awake.
_______________ I ignore the commands.
This world I have fallen
into is my own
and one where I am very much alone
with my thoughts,
with my hopes,
with my fears,
with myself.
Nothing is more frightening
than
looking outside yourself and
looking outside the world you know.
Ignorance
is our only defence.
Oh, cruel world, don't
hurt me,
please, don't hurt me.
I won't say a word.
I promise.
I won't tell a soul.
I'll look the other way.
The trouble is
too many look away.
We've all fallen into our own world
and we're drowning
in our thoughts,
in our hopes,
in our fears,
in ourselves.
We gasp for air in a now
airless space.
What we don't know becomes our
enemy.
We are drowning in what we don't know.
