Tokyo is a very modern city. Its historical significance does not come close to Kyoto nor Kamakura's. However, this is not what the city is about. This city is very fast paced and yet has a quieter and often unnoticed side that makes the city both loveable and liveable. Tokyo is composed of a number of small towns and neighbourhoods all tightly grouped. There are many narrow, winding streets, family owned shops, fruit stands and stores. If you observe carefully, you will see the neatness and order this city has. Some examples of which are carefully pruned bonsai decorating the sidewalks, women dressed in kimono bowing and shuffling down the streets, or old houses inserted between apartment complexes. Inside concrete high-rises are Japanese restaurants that resemble imitations of wood-beamed farmhouses. You'll find these located closely to the high-tech looking bars.
