WHAT IS LINEN BACKING?
Linen backing is a method commonly used to conserve vintage posters. It
also serves as a base for restoring any poster problems such as fold
separations, missing paper, pinholes, stains, missing color, wrinkles
and bends, damaged fold lines, etc. A linen backed poster is also more
esthetically pleasing because the appearance of fold lines is
eliminated and the poster stays perfectly flat which is ideal when
framing. This process is reversible and considered museum
quality.
PRODUCTS USED:
We use a high quality 13 duck cotton canvas. The knots per square inch
is very fine and tight. This will give you a very solid foundation and
a soft roll to your poster.
The Barrier paper is Japanese MASA paper, hot pressed, machine made
from the Mulberry pulp. This paper is buffered for extra protection.
The Glue is made from scratch using a 100% premium food grade wheat or
rice starch, distilled water, and PH balanced with Calcium Carbonate.
This is a traditional NORI paste, true, tested and used for centuries.
Pigments used are Faber Castell Water soluble color sticks. We also use
Golden conservation colors when air brushing is warranted or requested
by customer.
