Autumn Truffles

Truffle lovers can thank an Italian soldier stationed near here during the first world war for their culinary treats. Homesick, he noted how similar the landscape was to his native Tuscany and, acting on a hunch, he went digging for truffles. Now the knobbly white fungus supports hordes of hungry cognoscenti who flock to the region in search of this aphrodisiacal tuber.

The white Istrian truffle is one of the most highly appraised truffle species in the world. The Istrians tend to prepare it in a simple, traditional manner.  We recommend scrambled eggs and truffles, gnocchi or lasagne with white sauce dressing enriched with grated truffles, pork chops or roasted meat with grated truffles…

We leave it to you to decide how you enjoy your truffles best.   Buon appetite!
