Porec was first settled over six thousand years ago

The Romans, Venetians, Napolean, the Hapsburgs, and Italy have all left their signatures on the city

The first hotel was built in the early 1880's

The first public beach was built in 1895 and located on the islet of St. Nicholas

These beaches were used over 6 thousand years ago by the Illyriens. Roman legionaires relaxed on these beaches 2 thousand years ago when they manned an outpost located at Porec. Since then the Goths, Venetians, Hapsburgs and Italians have claimed ownership. Today, thousands of sun worshippers find peace and tranquility along this well loved landscape.

The Venetians left architectural masterpieces and have permanently altered the skyline and facade of the historic section of the city.

The 6th century St. Euphrasius' Basilica has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and its marvelous mosaics remind us of our ongoing quest to honor our Gods and creators.

Porec was a bustling Roman legion outpost and the historic centre is layed out in traditional Roman plan. Ancient Decumanus, the main street of the historic centre, is still a bustling and lively place.

In 1863, Marquis Polesini had a castle built on the islet of St. Nicholas, to house the many prominent pilgrims visiting the St. Euphrasius Basilica. Within years his distinguished visitors included: Archduchess Stephania, Archdukes Karlo Stephan, Karl Ludwig and the Duke of Parma.
