Call for New Members Executive Board, fall 2006

The City of Victoria Youth Council (CVYC) is a grassroots, youth-driven project. We strive to build a bridge between youth and the municipal government in order to increase each other's capacity to engage in meaningful ways.

The CVYC invites youth who are committed to inclusive leadership to apply to become a member of the 2006/2007 CVYC Executive Board.

Duties: Executive Board members


  • Act as a bridge between youth and the municipal government

  • With the Coordinator, set and maintain the annual vision for the CVYC
  • Ensure a diversity of youth are involved in CVYC projects and municipal consultations
  • Create and facilitate workshops for municipal politicians and staff on youth-inclusion and social justice
  • Participate in municipal consultations to help shape policies that impact youth in Victoria
  • Sit on committees to help manage the operations of the youth council through media outreach, website development, fundraising and/or recruitment

 

Requirements:

  • Interest in developing/empowering others
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn, reflect and be challenged
  • Experience working in a group setting or as a team
  • Experience setting goals and working to reach them
  • Passionate about social justice, the environment, youth participation and/or politics
  • Desire to have fun and meet new people
  • Able to commit to a 1 year term
  • Participate in monthly Executive meetings and committee/project meetings (approximately 5 ­ 10 hours/month)
  • Must attend 15 hours of CVYC training in facilitation skills, consensus decision-making, advocacy, workshop planning, and anti-oppression practice
  • Must be a "self-identified" youth who lives, goes to school, works, accesses services, or hangs out in the municipality of Victoria

Write a letter explaining how you fulfill the requirements and why you want to be an Executive Board member
Include two letters of reference (not from family members please)
