- 2005 HIGHLIGHTS:
Canadian Selection Circuit#1, Montreal (Sep)
This event was attended by three of our fencers: Monica Kwan, Orion Stone-McNeil, and Caleb McIntosh. Monica came 6th, Orion 29th, and Caleb fenced three events - he came 40th in seniors, 16th in cadet and 35th in junior.

MONICA KWAN WINS QUEBEC TOURNAMENT ! This tournament started an interesting week for Monica; after capturing 1st place she attended a one-week clinic with her teammates, ending with the Canadian Selection Circuit competition the following weekend.
Training Camp in Poland, Aug 22-29
a couple of places with difficult names in Poland

The Canadian National Teams met in Poland for a series of camps, interesting food, some sightseeing and preparation for the World Championships.
FISU - World University Games, Izmir, Turkey (Aug 11-21)

The Canadian Women's Foil Team representing Canada at the 2005 23rd Summer Universiade were Monica Kwan, Nora O'Malley and Annie-Claude Therrien. There were over 9,000 participants from 170 countries. Monica had top Canadian results, and apparently cannot wait to visit Turkey again some time.
Vancouver World Cup, July
Amanda Kovacs and Orion Stone-McNeil decided to enter their first World Cup event. There was much excitement and both appreciated this opportunity to fence with world class athletes. They were happy with their results, Amanda came 42nd in epee and Orion came 41st in foil.
Las Vegas and Havana Tournaments, June

The Womens Foil National Team travelled to two world cup competitions in Las Vegas and Havana, with only one week break between the two events. Monica ranked first in the Canadian Team's results.
National Championships, Edmonton, May

CONGRATULATIONS MONICA ! Monica Kwan is the new Canadian National Champion in individual Sr Women's Foil. Way to go ! Monica also fenced in the BC Team event with Anna Smith, Victoria, and Carolyn Granholm, Vancouver. The BC Team also won first place, so Monica came home with two gold medals.
Amanda Kovacs had excellent results in both Jr. Women's Epee (6th place) and Sr. Women's Epee (8th place). Congratulations Amanda.
Our men's foilists also all had respectable results. In Sr. Men's Foil, Chris Ho came 48th, Thomas Hoerber 52nd, and Orion Stone-McNeil 63rd. Caleb McIntosh fenced in three events, and came 18th in Jr. Men's Foil, 11th in U-15 Men's Foil, and 18th in Cadet Men's Foil.

Provincial Championships, White Rock
Four new Provincial Champions from our club: Monica Kwan/Jr. Women's Foil, Amanda Kovacs/Jr. Women's Epee, Caleb McIntosh/Cadet Men's Foil, and Holden McIntosh/Mosquito Men's Foil. CONGRATULATIONS ! Ten competitors from our club attended this competition in twelve events, all with excellent results.

- March-April, 2005 - Monica Kwan fences in Japan and China, followed by NAC in Tennessee
Monica Kwan is now ranked one of the top Canadian Women’s Foil fencers. She was invited to join the Canadian High Performance Team on a series of World Cup competitions in Asia, from March 1 to 14. Following a Montreal Training Camp at the end of February, the team traveled to Beijing and Shanghai, to fence in an Individual World Cup in Shanghai on March 4-5. Following a week of training activities in China, they fenced in an Individual World Cup tournament in Tokyo on March 11-12, followed by a Team World Cup tournament on March 13.
Monica’s achievements were remarkable in this series of tournaments, with consistent top Canadian results. At the end of this series, Monica was ranked #1 Canadian fencer and earned an international "B" ranking, making her eligible to represent Canada at this years' World Championships in Germany.
Another adventurous whirlwind trip in April to attend the North-American Cup competition in Tennessee with good results and lost luggage, what a story !

An enjoyable tournament, attended by six competitors from our club, with good results. The big winners were Orion Stone-McNeill who captured 1st place, and Amanda Kovacs who captured 2nd place. Congratulations, Orion and Amanda! Chris Ho also came home with a medal, he achieved 3rd place. Caleb McIntosh came in 5th, Thomas Hoerber 9th, and Cole Uhlmann 12th.

A memorable tournament - winter conditions complete with ice, snow, hail, rain. Undeterred, a number of us went to this competition and had a good time including one damaged leg (Veronika), good results, and a great mexican dinner. Thanks to LaSalle Fencing Club for hosting.

BC Winter Games 2004, Port Alberni, Feb 26-29
An event that will be remembered by all participants for a very long time! We are very grateful to the city of Port Alberni and the many volunteers that hosted this memorable event. Everyone had a GREAT time, and we came home with a lot of medals for our zone. In fact, our zone had more medals than any of the others! BC Winter Games 2004 Qualifier, Victoria, Jan 10
This important event was hosted by the University of Victoria and run by the UVIC Club Executives. Nan-Sang Ho provided equipment for those who needed it and advice to the tournament organizers. 21 cadet fencers competed to try to make the team for Zone 6. The fencers came from several clubs, including the Victoria Fencing Club, Pentathlon Epee Club, Comox Fencing Club, and Panorama Fencing Club. Click here to view the results page.
Vancouver Open Tournament, Vancouver, Jan 3-4
Many of our fencers attended this event, including Chris, Orion, Ryan, Monica, Veronika, Caleb, Carmela, Alan, Nick. Some of us came home with medals.
