  • 2009-2010 HIGHLIGHTS:

    Major accomplishments by top fencers and busy recreation scene
    Monica Kwan, Caleb McIntosh and Amanda Kovacs continued to compete during these two seasons. Monica continues her dedicated training with her coach, Dr. Nan-Sang Ho, on a daily basis. Recreational classes continue to be busy at the University of Victoria and at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre.

  • 2008 HIGHLIGHTS:

    World Cups, NAC's, Grand Prix's, and much more
    Our top fencers Monica Kwan, Caleb McIntosh and Amanda Kovacs travelled to a lot of competitions this year. Monica travelled the world circuit and trained extremely hard. She was a contestant for the 2008 Olympic Games and nearly made it. She continues training with her coach, Dr. Nan-Sang Ho, and both have their eyes on the 2012 Olympics in London.

    The club continues to enjoy excellent attendance in the Recreation Centers (Esquimalt and Juan de Fuca), and at the University of Victoria. Unfortunately, the YMCA closed their fencing program after 28 years.

  • 2007 HIGHLIGHTS:

    Provincial Championships, White Rock
    A number of our fencers participated in this event (Amanda Kovacs, Michelle Anthony, William Archibald, Caleb McIntosh, Matt Mortimore). Many medals were earned and everyone felt good about their performance. Amanda is the new Provincial Senior Women's Epee Champion ! Congratulations, Amanda.

    Budapest and Marseille
    Monica Kwan fenced in two High Performance competitions in March. She is still ranked top women's foilist in Canada, and is preparing for the circuit in Asia. Check out the FIE web pages for these competitions. Monica in currently ranked #45 in the FIE World Rankings.

  • 2006 HIGHLIGHTS:

    Three Times Canadian Champion
    Monica Kwan's remarkable achievements now include being a three times Canadian Champion in Senior Women's Foil, a first time ever event for a women's west coast fencer.

    Senior Nationals, Vancouver
    The Senior Nationals were hosted by the Dynamo Fencing Club in December, a very successful event for British Columbia. Monica Kwan (1st Place !), Amanda Kovacs, Caleb McIntosh, William Archibald, and Michelle Anthony participated and all did very well.

    Commonwealth Games, Ireland
    For the first time ever, Canada brought home the Women's Foil Gold Medal - thanks to Monica Kwan!

    World Veterans Championships
    Veronika Ho represented Canada in the Veteran's World Championships hosted in Bath, England (September 2006). She was very happy with her results of 12th in the women's foil event. Over 300 participants from 30 countries competed in Foil, Epee and Saber, in two age categories.

    High Performance Circuit
    If you take a look at the gruelling series of competitions all over Europe and Asia, you can see why Monica Kwan looks a bit tired every once in a while... She completed successfully the circuit and came out #1 of the Canadian Team Women's Foilists. Monica is now a carded "A" Athlete. She continues her daily training schedule with her personal coach, Dr. Nan-Sang Ho, into the next season.
