Resources for passing the Basic qualification:
Here it is.... the Questions they will be asking on the test. The answers are included so it is possible to just memorize the answers and pass. A parrot could do it, but I do recommend you go to your local library and get some study material on basic electronic theory. The ARRL handbook is a good resource on basic as well as advanced electronic theory. It contains way more material than you need. See notes

Resources for passing the 5 wpm qualification:
Download the excellent program "The Mill" by Jim Farior, W4FOK. It is a DOS program, but works great even in a windowed DOS box. Start your code practice at 8 or more words per minute. Please don't start at less than 8 wpm. It is commonly said, and I agree, that it will make progressing to faster speeds harder in the long run if you start of too slow.
Download my suggested lessons; cwlsns.zip 190 Kb. It contains text files that can be read by "The Mill", and a PDF to explain how to use them.

Resources for passing the 12 wpm qualification:
You can use the "The Mill" and the suggested lessons above, practicing at a faster rate working up to 15 wpm. Or a more interesting way by getting your 5wpm qualification and practice on the air with some QSOs.

Resources for passing the Advanced qualification:
Here is the questions they will ask from for the advanced qualification. As with the basic, the answers are included so it is possible to just memorize the answers and pass. Once again a parrot could do it, but I suggest you study a book that has the relevant content. Again the ARRL handbook comes to mind, but there are others of course. See notes

Both the Basic and the Advanced
Question and Answer Banks where compiled by VE7UBC.
They are available in web format on the web site of
VE2DM http://www.ve2dm.net
They where converted to PDF format and made available on the web
site of VE7GDS http://www.members.shaw.ca/ve7gds/
Please note both the above basic and advanced question and
answer banks became officially out dated July 1st 2000. I
have found very little effective change, therefore if you know the
information contained in the above PDFs you will have no problem on
any test compiled from the up-coming question banks. The
Basic exam contains 100 questions from the basic question bank, 60%
for a pass. The Advanced exam contains 50 questions from the
advanced question bank, 60% for a pass.
A fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) is charged for each
qualification, when the examination is given by a
departmental official.
I encourage you to shoot for at least the 12 wpm
qualification to enjoy HF, what I consider the heart of amateur
radio. CW may not appeal to you, but I assure you that it is
most enjoyable.
Good luck and 73 de VE7GDS![]()
