Storylines
The
most common problem for new members is getting involved in
a storyline. Sometimes even old members find it difficult
to find a place to fit their characters in. There are many
ways to get started, and the staff are always here to help
you.
Chat:
If you find you're still having difficulty getting involved,
drop into chat. All members are free to open chat and post
in the OOC Folder inviting others to join them. The staff
also hold a chat every Friday night (about 7:00 PM EST). Drop
in for a brainstorming session or just to get to know the
other writers.
Creating
a New Storyline: All members are free to start their
own storyline from scratch. This may be an epic adventure
that will run for months, or it may be something small that
will play out in a single thread. Often starting an adventure
and posting in the OOC Folder inviting others to join you
will quickly attract others. The only stipulation we have
is that large scale storylines that will effect all members
(war, plague, famine, etc.) must first meet with the approval
of the staff.
Harbour
Gates & Visitors' Centre: When first presenting
your character for entry into the city, you may take advantage
of the clerk's expertise. Any questions your character may
have will be answered. If your character has any special skills
or is looking for employment, they should mention this to
the clerk. The clerk will then point them in the right direction.
The
Herald: The Royal Herald is posted once a month and
outlines current storylines, openings and updates. The Royal
Herald Archive also contains useful information to help
get you started.
Inns
and Taverns: The first place most members visit
a tavern. This is a good place to meet new characters and
start interacting with them. Some people find it enjoyable
to write on their own, but for the most part having a foil
makes it more interesting. Finding a character to partner
yourself with isn't always easy, but in time you will come
to know the different writers and who you will write best
with.
Job
Opportunities: Check the Job Opportunities
page on the website on a regular basis. Starting a business
or joining the army is a way for your character to mingle
with other characters.
Plotting
& Story Discussion: If you still find you are
having difficulties getting involved in a storyline, it is
good to post in this folder. You may simply wish to mention
that you have a free character and would like to write with
someone, or perhaps there is a current storyline you would
like to be involved in. Most people are happy to invite others
into their storylines, but it is always best to ask first.
Quests:
Seeking a quest is another way to involve yourself in a storyline.
Quests can be obtained from the Royal Palace, the House of
Lords or the Curio Shop. Once you have a quest, post a notice
for people to join you.
Royal
Herald: The Royal Herald is posted twice a month
to give members a briefing of what's currently happening in
The Unknown Lands. A synopsis on storylines is posted along
with job opportunities and classified ads.
