Q: What is a bio & why do I need one?
A: Your bio is a description of the character(s) you play. You need one for several reasons, but mostly so you and other writers know what your character is about and how to interact with them. For detailed information, read the Creating a Bio section.

Q: I need advice creating a character. Can someone assist me?
A: Post in the OOC Folder and someone will be along to help you as soon as possible.

Q: How many characters can I have?
A: You can have as many characters as you like and are able to maintain. If you are new to FFRPG, then we suggest you start off with one character and only make another once you are more familiarised with the Unknown Lands.

Q: What is an NPC?
A: An NPC is a Non Playing Character. These are characters that help a storyline along without being a significant player. An example of an NPC would be the guards that follow a lord around, or a barmaid waiting tables in a tavern. These characters get involved very little and never act outside their designated role. It is common for NPC's to evolve into full characters. When this happens, a bio must be submitted and approved.

Q: What is God Modding?
A: God Modding is when you control another character or your character does something without explanation. There are further examples of God Modding in the Rule & Conduct section.

Q: How do I get involved in a storyline?
A: If you're having trouble getting involved, the Storylines section offers several tips on getting started.

Q: What do I do if the person I'm writing with doesn't reply?
A: Offer a polite reminder and be patient. Our members live in different time zones, work different hours, and real life often has a habit of rearing its ugly head. If you cannot wait, write your character out of the thread and move on. Pressing for a reply can be very annoying.

Q: What is a spanner?
A: A spanner is something that one writers does to another. It is unexpected and creates milestones for the other writer.

We all have some sort of plan, a direction if you will, when we create a character. However occasionally a spanner gets thrown in the works and another character posts something right out of left field that throws your wonderful preplanned story completely out of kilter. You can do one of two things; you can ignore it and carry on with your own story or you can pick up the offer and run with it.

Q: Can I add to the map?
A: No. When The Unknowns Lands first started we encouraged members to add to the map through their storylines. Now that the map of the lands is more developed, we are no longer accepting suggstions. Many thanks to those who helped The Unknown Lands grow into a rich, full world.

Q: Do I have to go through the Visitors' Centre?
A: Yes and no. If this is your first time writing in the Unknown Lands, then you must go through either the Visitors' Centre or the Harbour Gates. If you are already an established member and you are playing a local, then it isn't always necessary to go through the process. For instance, your character may not even wish to enter Cor Cathair, they may already be a resident with a valid city pass, or they are sneaking in. If you're uncertain, ask a member of staff.

Q: Why are my sigs being deleted?
A: If the staff finds that your sig is not complying with the rules of the forum, they may delete it. Usually you will be contacted privately if this happens. Remember, large sigs can be frustrating for people on dial-up and people with their monitors set at 800x600 who are forced to scroll from side-to-side. Further information can be found on our Signature Policy page.

Q: Can I promote my forum?
A: Yes. If you are an established member, you are free to promote your forum or website in the OOC folder.
