Races
of the Lands
Cordy | Dalnese
| Frithi | Nuae
| Solnese | Telfordines
Cordy
(Cordaire)
Cordaire
has no specific race. It is a melting pot of all the people
from the five lands, and many from the lands beyond. Magic
isn't strong in Cordies, but they are the fiercest fighters
in all the lands. It is for this reason that Cordaire has
always ruled over the Unknown Lands.
Dalnese
(Dalton)
The
oldest of the lands, the Dalnese people are a mixture of all
races. Brown hair and brown eyes are most predominant with
the features of the other four races apparent. Their lands
are low and the climate hot, so the people are often dark
in complexion. Dalnese are sturdy and hale from working the
soil. The low flat lands allow for grain to be their main
staple, though they also grow all varieties of produce.
The
people are natural botanists, and there is little they don’t
know about the plant life that grow across the lands. They
are lovers of life and all things that grow. Their herbs are
most sought after for their healing and mystical properties.
The
Dalnese are also powerful empathic healers. Their own wounds
heal in a matter of moments depending on their severity, and
they bear no scars. When healing others, they take the injury
into themselves and suffer both the pain and the injury. The
injuries heal almost instantly, though if they try to heal
someone who is too near death, they will die in their place.
The
Dalnese are peaceful by nature and natural mediators, though
when necessary, they are fierce in battle.
Frithi
(Monadh-Frith)
The
Frithi are a small people, not reaching much past five feet
in height. They are willowy and thin with pale, fine hair
and light coloured eyes.
The
Frithi are rarely seen out of their lands and indeed are rarely
seen even in their lands, often remaining within the treetops
and shunning strangers. They have been called cowardly in
battle for they prefer to attack and flee instead of making
direct attacks. They use mainly bows and slings, but on rare
occasions have been seen wielding staffs. They shun steel.
Frithi
also possess strong earth magic and are able to communicate
with plantlife. The great forest of Monadh-Frith obeys their
command and is their greatest defense. They see well in the
dark and are able to tolerate low temperatures.
Nuae (Nuall)
The
Nuae live on low, climate lands and have cultivated their
skills in the area of raising all manner of livestock. Their
horses are sought after far and wide, having bred them for
speed, strength and intelligence. They are nomads and travel
in tribes across their lands. During Meán Samhraidh
they gather at the Weeping Stone where for one month livestock
is traded, celebrations take place, and tribes forge alliances
through marriage. This is the longest any tribe remains in
one place.
The
Nuae are known for their fiery red hair, green eyes and peppering
of freckles. They have been called layabouts by the other
houses and are seen as being indolent and lazy. They are lovers
of music and art and indulge in all things beautiful. They
are a peaceful people who rely on the neighbouring lands for
protection. They are followers, not leaders.
Because
of their beauty and love of art, many bards come from Nuall.
Their voices are second to none, so they are sought after
by the wealthy to entertain. As a result, can be very manipulative
and hoard the secrets they gather. Nuae make excellent spies
and assassins.
Nuae
are also able to communicate with animals, and most strongly
with hoofed animals.
Solnese (Solange)
Gold
and gems are the livelihood of the Solnese people. They love
all things that glitter and have been known to hoard their
wealth. It is said they are able to see in the dark and speak
to the stones themselves. To offset the dreary life they live
in the mountains, they dress in bright, merry colours. They
have even been called gaudy.
Solnese
enjoy celebrations and have a holiday for every event. They
can drink most people under the table with little effort.
They are of average build with dark hair and their eyes gleam
like jewels in absolute darkness. Like Telfordines, they are
pale as they rarely dwell outside their mountain home.
Telfordines (Telford)
Telfordine
men are strong and heavily built, while their women are delicate
and frail. They are fair-haired and blue-eyed despite the
difficult climate, and have pale complexions due to living
within their mountain homes.
They
are untrusting of both strangers and each other, so their
cities are built far into the mountains where outsiders are
rarely permitted. Politics and intrigue are their favourite
games, for Telfordines desire power over all else.
Though
it is common to see the men, the woman are kept out of sight
and protected fiercely. Their beauty is said to be second
to none. When visible, their faces are covered and their forms
hidden by loose robes.
Telfordines
greatest ability is manipulating stone. They can make it as
soft as clay and mould it however they wish. They can also
sent their conscious mind through veins of stone to find the
precious ore that their lands thrive on. These powers are
especially strong in those of royal lineage.
