UBC Division of General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine is a large Division within the
Department of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine at the University of British
Columbia. Members of the Division practice general internal medicine at the
affiliated teaching hospitals of UBC, including St. Paul's Hospital,
Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Center and BC Women's Hospital.
Many Division members have expertise in areas that include HIV/AIDS care,
clinical pharmacology, maternal medicine, addictions medicine,
cardiovascular medicine including hypertension, information technology,
population health, rheumatology, eating disorders, quality improvement and
medical education.
The Division is actively involved in research including population health,
particularly with respect to health issues of the Downtown Eastside,
hypertension, hypertension in pregnancy and medical education.
The Division is home to a significant number of award winning teachers.
Many members are active within the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Canada and play an important role in the Specialty Examinations for
Internal Medicine. Several members have significant national leadership
roles in General Internal Medicine as well as the educational leadership of
the Department and Faculty of Medicine.
In summary, the Division plays an integral part in the clinical, educational
and research mandates of the Department of Medicine. Its members are highly
regarded by students, residents and faculty.
