What is Shithead?

Shithead, also know as Shed, Palace, Idiot, and Karma, is a card game popular in many regions of the world. The game is quite simple, yet extremely addicting, and is, in a sense, similar to the card game Big Two. There are many different variations of Shithead, but the basic structure of the game remains the same.

About Shithead Computer Game

This is a single player computer game of Shithead. Its interface mimics that of Microsoft Hearts, and thus should be quite intuitive for most people. This version of the Shithead is based on the following rules:

  • Twos (2) are restart cards and can be played on anything.
  • Threes (3) are invisible cards and can be played on anything.
  • Tens (10) are burn cards and can be played on anything.
  • Sevens (7) are direction-changing cards and must be played on a smaller card.
  • Eights (8) are miss-a-go cards and must be played on a smaller card.
  • Nines (9) are play-less-than-nine cards and must be played on a smaller card.
  • Four cards of the same rank in a row burns the pile but the person does not get to go again.
  • There are no other magic cards (i.e pick-up card etc.)

Download

The file that you will download is an EXE setup file. (Unfortunately) I decided to design the game using the graphics in the Windows card.dll so I did not want to spend extra time to port it to Linux. You will need to have Microsoft .NET framework installed on your computer. You can download it here for free.

Installation

After downloading the game, double click it to start the installation. Then the on-screen installation wizard will guide you through the process. By default, the game will appear in the Program Files --> Games folder of the start menu. You may need

Source Code

This game is one of the first games I've made and the first project I completed in C++. The purpose was originally for me to polish my programming skills and have fun. However, the game was quite successful and I have decided to release the source code to the public. Unfortunately, I admit that the code is quite messy and may prove unreadable to anyone brave enough to take a shot at it. If you decide to compile a new version of the game, please keep it open source and give me an email. Also, I'd be grateful for some kind of credit.
