Players Series Cars - Production Numbers

GM Produced approx. 100 car each year for the Player's Challenge Series.  On average, 75% of the car were Camaros and 25% were Trans Ams.

Many Players cars were raced for more than one season.  However in 1989 with the introduction of the 1LE option, most teams would have upgraded to the new cars to maintain any advantage.  After 1989, many teams could have raced the same car since there was little to be gained other that the change to Speed Density.

RPO's - A4U verses R7U

From 1985 through 1988, regular production option (RPO) A4U was designated as "Players Challenge Car".  From 1989 through to 1992, option code R7U along with 1LE designated the car as a Players Challenge car.  I have GM Vintages Services documentation that supports both A4U and R7U as correct option codes.

1990 Irocs were only produced until Dec 31, 1989, after which 1991 were introduced early as Z28's.  Production number of actual 1990 cars is very low, and 1991 are high.

1LE Production Numbers

A 1LE option code does not mean it was necessarily a GM built race car, however it stands to reason that all Players Series cars would have been equipped with RPO-1LE from 1989 onwards.

Interesting to note.  Most players cars were ordered with power windows, locks, hatch release, rear window defroster, etc. and after 1989 the 1LE option.  So you could get a 1LE with comfort options!  I know of one with a factory block heater!
