Special Thanks goes to Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame.  They have been a great help in learning more about my car, and the Player's series in general.

Here is my ongoing research material. (scroll down to see pictures)

Here is what I know about my car:
  • Purchased from H.Auger Automobile Inc (GM dealer) in Quebec
  • Car was registered to Denon Canada INC in January 1989.  Perhaps they owned and sponsored it?
  • Car was white from the factory.  It was painted Red, then White, then red again, and finally blue.  The red paint looked to be red on the lower part of the passenger door and the top of the passenger door was white.
  • The hood, front passenger fender and passenger door are original (VIN stickers still there).  Drivers front fender and door have been swapped and it looks like the passenger rear quarter was replaced with a GM panel (black underneath and no original white paint)
  • The car has the indication of number "13" on the roof.  There was a car in the 1989 series driven by Renald Hamelin which appeared to come from "AUGER" (same dealer ship).  The only problem is that his car was green and I can't find any indications this car was ever green.  I sanded about 12 spots right down to metal (oops) and I carefully watch the paint change.  I found white, red, white, red, and blue.  No less than 5 coats of paint in some areas.

Next Steps

  • I am waiting to hear from Denon to see if they have any pictures of the car, or if they care to share any more information
  • I am also waiting to hear from the middle owner again.  He said he would email me pictures of the car, but so far nothing.
  • The Canadian Motorsport Archives have been the most helpful thus far.  I am hopeful with their help I will be able to identify who the driver was.
  • There are a couple of Player's car in my area.  I am going to try and contact them in order to better document the race series.  Perhaps even take some picture of the side exhaust so that I can re-create it.

1988 Player LTD/GM Motor Sports Season (notice very few Trans Ams).  Mine is one of these, either car #13 or #23.

Thanks to the Canadian Motor sports hall of fame for the information.

Paint Schemes:

Here is the passenger rear quarter.  You can see the base paint was black.  There is no original white.  Thus this panel was a GM replacement.  I expect the car was hit in the rear.

The door.  The upper part of the door was originally white, and then was blue.  I sanded down to factory primer.  No other colors on the top.  The lower part of the door was red.  There is a hard line where the red begins (where the door molding was).

The front fender, while still original, was repainted many times.  It was white, then red, then white, then red, then blue, then blue again.  Egads!

Car number 13?  Or is it 19?  The driver's side was repainted and as such there are thick masking lines.  It looks like 19, but there was no Trans AM number 19 that raced in the 1988 or 1989 series. Car number 1.jpg (172607 bytes)   Car 13.jpg (271100 bytes)
Here is the Candian Automobile Sports Clubs plaque (better known as C.A.S.C.).

I have contacted CASC, but they were not able to find any information on this particular number.

Decals on the passenger side:

GM Motor sports on the rear quarter

Denon on the front fender

Firestone on the door

Digital Audio on the door.

Notice on the door you can see large DENON lettering.  About 1 foot tall accross the door.  Also a small DENON on the mirror.
