| Interior:
Recarro Driver's seat. A bit warn from the roll bar and getting in and out.
Gauges - only 120km on the car.
Door Panels - You can see the rub marks on the arm rests of both doors.
Wiring - as the car was sponsored and owned by a stereo company, there was a pile of alarms, sensors, and more. Just look what we pulled out while trying to access the ECM! . |
|
| The Engine. It's rough, but it runs
well. The block is the matching one for the car.
Notice the throttle body. You can see where they clean it up, plus the remains of epoxy to smooth the incoming air.
Here is the PROM. Nothing special here. It is a mid 1988 305 5-speed prom. I was expecting a special GM chip, but I suspect they would replace the whole ECM. Car guys are not too static safe. |

| Exterior:
Not much to talk about here. More information is on the Racing Heritage page. But here are some interesting exterior pictures. Front rims are missing. Rear rims are wrong year for 1988 car. Rear hatch has been replaced. Driver's fender and door have been replaced. Hood, passenger fender and passenger door are original.

| Transmission:
Here is the Tag from the transmission. Almost impossible to read it, but after hours of looking, my numbers are shown. According to my findings, this is a close ration world class T5. 2.94:1 first, and a 0.74:1 5th. Some references show it as a "racing" transmission. |
|
| The Brakes:
Rear Brakes - Here are the disc brakes. As this is a 1988 car, it only has the 10.5" rear rotors. 1989 was the first year for the 11" ones on all production disc brakes. Notice the factory urethane bushings on the rear sway bar. Front Brakes - A point of discussion. The 1LE option is known for the 12" front rotors and twin piston PBR calipers. But a little know fact is that for the players series all front brakes were swapped with Brembo units (prior to 1LE brakes). Some cars even made it to the street with these brakes. As far as I can tell, this car had GM style brakes (10.5"). |
|
| Suspension:
Camaro and Firebirds used different suspension components. For example, the highest level suspension on a Trans Am used 36mm front sway bars, and 24mm rear sway bars. A Camaro on the other hand used 34mm front and 23 mm rear. Incidentally, both cars used 547 inch-pound front springs, and 130 inch-pounds in the rear.
This car has the FE2 suspension and WS6 performance package. Attached is a pic of the sway bar part number.
A couple of interesting pictures. Notice how the strut towers have been modified for more camber. Underneath, they have been slotted to adjust caster. Rather agressive!
Lastly is a picture (from GM?) on how to modify the struts to support this high degree of adjustment.
