Tim Sandberg's Genealogy Database

Cawston, BC, March 26, 1999
A Sandberg gathering in Cawston, British Columbia in March of 1999. From left to right are
Denzel, Kurt, Val, Tim, Dale, Floyd and Alex (the little guy).

There are a number of themes in this database, united by the fact that, of course, it is my genealogy and that of families related to me.

My paternal ancestry is Swedish. Both sets of paternal great-grandparents emigrated from Sweden in the 1880 's and settled in Polk Center Twp, in what is now Pennington County, Minnesota. My great-grandparents, Knut Fritiof Sandberg and Anna Greta (nee Sjögren) were founding members of the Black River Swedish Lutheran Congregation. My father's maternal grandparents, Per Alfred Hallstrom and Mathilda (nee Sellberg) settled in the same area in approximately 1885. Today, I have many relatives living in the area around Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

My ancestors in the Hallstrom line are from the area around Tidaholme and Skövde in what is now Vastragotlän, in southern central Sweden. Anders Brissman of Tibro and I have have collaborated in developing a database of the families of that area and their relatives in the Swedish diaspora in North America.

My mother's family, the Floyers of Floyer's Hayes, are an ancient Saxon family from Exeter, Devonshire. Through them, I have connections to many ancient and noble families. Much of my research involves the genealogy of the Landed Gentry of England, particularly that of the West Country families. The families of Carew, Courtenay, Clare, Ferrers, Bohun, Martyn, Carminowe, Holland, Wadham, Pole and Plantagenet all figure prominently in my genealogy. In the 1700's the Floyers moved to Lincolnshire, where they acquired links to ancient families such as Ayscough, Skipwith, Tyrwhit, Hansard and Talboys. More recently, I have discovered Irish links via my Watson line to the families of Colclough of County Wexford and the Earls of Kildare.

Another aspect of this database is an ever-expanding genealogy of my wife's lines, including McAllister, Morris, McMillan, Ransom, Blyth, Nodwell and Rodger. My wife's ancestors are Scottish and Irish in origin, settled in southern Ontario and Quebec in the early 1800's, but have many Western Canadian and American descendants.

Also included here is a genealogy of Floyer of Hints and Shinfield, Staffordshire, including the illustrious Dr. Sir John Floyer of Lichfield, 1649-1734. It must be noted that there is no proven relationship between Floyer of Hints and Floyer of Floyer's Hayes, although the former claimed descent from "a disgraced younger son" of Floyer of Floyer's Hayes. The documentation to prove the relationship is lacking, and this Pedigree is included here for discussion purposes only.

The data for this genealogy are drawn from J. Kestell Floyer's Annals of the Family of Floyer and the Pedigree that accompanies it; James Thomas Houssemayne du Boulay's Pedigree of the Cornish family; collaborations with various relatives and my own cullings from the Internet. Much of the data on the Hallstrom and Naplin families is derived from a compilation by Edla Egbers and Lorraine Mosbeck. Special thanks go to Maxine Bratvold and Anders Brissman. The Pedigree of the family of Houssemayne du Boulay was provided by Doug du Boulay at the University of Western Australia. The du Boulays are a Huguenot family, driven from France by persecution in the late 1700's.

The late John Herbert McDougall Young and I collaborated for a number of years in compiling a genealogy of the Carews and associated families. John was my genealogical mentor and taught me how to research original sources, such as the Visitations of the Heralds, Cokayne's Complete Peerage, the various Burke's publications, Lincolnshire Pedigrees and other published sources. John passed away in Toronto on Feb 18, 2004, after an extended illness. Peace to you, John. Many thanks go to Tom Magness of Atlanta for editorial input.

This database now contains over 40,000 individuals, and is growing steadily! Any information on any of the families contained herein is welcome, and all queries will be answered as quickly and as fully as possible. I have tried to consult the best sources and check the data for correctness, but due to the many sources, conflicts inevitably occur. Please contact me if you find errors in my data! Each entry in the database includes complete source documentation.

Rootsweb privacy policy dictates that information regarding living people be purged from the web version of the database. All personal information is held in my private files. Otherwise, all information is in the public domain. If you would like to copy some of this data, go ahead! All I ask is that I be credited as the source.
