A hands-on cooking class with a local chef will have you cooking up something new or just sipping wine while you take it all in.

Often referred to as the Provence of North America, Vancouver Island is proud of its many wineries. Taste gewürztraminer, pinot noir, merlot and more.

There is no need to go to Tuscany for an extraordinary culinary experience. You will be nothing short of impressed with what we have to offer.

Take an Edible Journey: These two, three and four-day day tours are available throughout the year. Itineraries are built to include such activitities as culinary and winery tours, chef demonstrations, cooking classes, visits to farms and artisan cheesemakers - and as many other decadent activities we can sneak in! Meet fabulous local food, wine and beer industry characters and learn the secrets of their trade. Book your accommodations at the beautiful John Lewis House centrally located on Government Street in Victoria. Innkeeper and food writer, Elizabeth Levinson, and Kathy come together to provide you with a memorable culinary vacation. An Edible Journey

Edible Journeys are planned for each month of the summer and fall. Please inquire for dates.

Enjoy the Victoria Festival of Wine March 22 and 23, then spend the weekend indulging in all things wonderful on Vancouver Island.

Book your accommodations at the casually elegant John Lewis House bed and breakfast. On Friday afternoon, be warmly welcomed by your hostesses, award-winning food writer Elizabeth Levinson and culinary tourism specialist Kathy McAree. Enjoy local wine, cheese and a lively discussion of the city's food scene. In the early evening, you'll travel with Kathy to the home of one of her favorite Italian chefs. Help to cook (if you wish, or sip a little vino and take it all in with ingredients fresh from their farm. Enjoy the evening with a beautiful multi-course dinner paired with wine.

On Saturday morning, enjoy a scrumptious organic breakfast at the John Lewis House before Kathy whisks you away for a Cuisine and Wine Tour of the Cowichan Valley. Visit several wineries, a cidery and an artisan cheesemaker as we taste our way through the valley. The highlight of the day will be a three-course lunch specially prepared for you by Chef Fatima da Silva at Vinoteca on the Vineyard. Contemplate the artwork or relax on the veranda enjoying the pastoral scene of the vineyard as we sip our bubbly then two additional wines with our feast! Start with the most delicious crab cakes or fresh spinach, caramelized walnuts, pear and gorgonzola salad with warm prosciutto dressing. Taste Chef Fatima Da Silva's seafood medley in coconut, fennel and tomato sauce, or perhaps you'd prefer a pasta or fresh fish with locally grown, crisp vegetables and risotto. Naturally each course will be complemented with a Vigneti Zanatta wine created on the premises. Our dining adventure will not be complete without the finishing touch. Chef Da Silva's delectable desserts change daily and are always sure to tantalize your taste buds…flourless chocolate hazelnut cake, crème brulee, pumpkin souffle… Return to Victoria late in the afternoon. You most likely won't be ready for dinner, but if you have picked up some cheese from Hilary, a loaf of bread in the Village of Cowichan Bay, and a bottle of wine, the back garden and a cozy chair will be calling your name!

Cuisine and Wine Day Tours :


With as few as two or four people, custom day tours can be arranged for indulgent cuisine and wine tours, some including Butchart Gardens on A Taste of the Saanich Peninsula, chef demonstrations and cooking classes, a gourmet day on Salt Spring Island and more. Winery day tours are available most every day of the week:

Cowichan Valley Cuisine & Winery Day Tour .....

Drive north from Victoria to the Cowichan Valley where you will experience some of the most spectacular scenery in Canada. Visit local wineries and taste outstanding wines made from the plentiful vineyards of the island. Chat with wine makers, stroll through the vineyards, and taste the abundance of flavors our Vancouver Island wines have to offer.

The day is complete with a leisurely late lunch at a beautiful winery in the valley or at an orchard bistro located at an Olde English cidery. Contemplate the artwork or relax on the veranda enjoying the pastoral scene of the vineyard or orchard while a special lunch is created for you. Start with the most delicious crab cakes or fresh spinach, caramelized walnuts, pear and gorgonzola salad with warm prosciutto dressing. Taste the chef's delicious pastas or a seafood medley in coconut, fennel and tomato sauce. Or enjoy a ploughman's platter of local cheese, meats and other delights before an ever changing array of main courses to choose from at the bistro. Naturally each course will be complemented with wine, bubbly or cider created on the respective premises. Our feast will not be complete without the finishing touch. Delectable desserts change daily and are always sure to tantalize your tastebuds! Lunch is followed by one more stop.

All tastings, a three course lunch, wine and transportation is included. Tours generally run May through October, most every day of the week. Please inquire for availability at other times of the year.

A private tour for two is available at $250 CAD + 7% GST per person (approximately $200 USD + 7% GST per person). Group discounts are available for 4-6 persons with transportation by van and larger groups by executive motor coach. Tours can also begin in the afternoon and include a multi-course dinner.
