My wife and I have travelled "Through
the Back Door" in the past and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We have
liked the freedom of changing our minds about where we will go and how we
will get there on a day-to-day basis, but to do that you need to travel
"light". Going to an eclipse site (particularly if you are a photographer
or an avid astronomer) usually involves transporting lots of equipment.
For that reason we have started to chase eclipses from the comfort of
cruise ships or buses, where we don't have to pack our equipment around,
where somebody else has the responsibility for logistics, and where hopefully
we will be provided with some mobility in finding those wonderful "holes
in the clouds".

March 29, 2006 Eclipse - Touring Links
(While looking for tours for ourselves for the 1999 eclipse, we collected a fair
number of links, so we thought we should share them to save others some time. Now we are
starting to look at 2006!)
Cruise

(N.B. - Various travel groups often have blocks of tickets on the same cruise ship,
but you should remember that they are not always the same. Some offer exclusive astronomical
enrichment programs to their tour members, as do some of the land tour groups.)
