Bev started practicing yoga in England many years ago in a class for rowers. It was taught at the university as a preventative measure to avoid back injuries. Since then Bev’s practice has unfolded to appreciate the many additional benefits that yoga offers. Bev’s training in Integral Yoga at the Sri Swami Satchidanada Ashram honours the science of the eight limbs or facets of yoga. In particular, Bev is interested in the interface of western science/medicine and the ancient tradition of yoga. The physiological benefits of the asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing practices) and deep relaxation practice are well documented in both traditions. Bev is also a member of the Hatha Yoga Association of Victoria (HYAV) and of the Integral Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA). Bev’s classes are appropriate for beginners, as full instruction is given to safely enter, work and come out of the poses. In addition more experienced practitioners enjoy her classes as they include poses to work the entire body – forward bends, backward bends, inversions and twists. Pranayama and deep relaxation are included to increase oxygenation in the body and to innervate the parasympathetic response, the ‘anti-dote’ to the stress. Please feel welcomed to join the class and experience yourself, the wonderful health and relaxation benefits of long term, consistent yoga practice. No prior experience, equipment, special clothing or minimum fitness level is required.
