Colorful and vibrant a ski village never to be forgotten. Every year, Silver Star Mountain is becoming more popular with skiers of every age and ability. Some of the most varied ski terrain in Western Canada, and an average annual snowfall exceeding 700 cm. (23 ft.) and mild winter temperatures combine to make just the right elements for an outstanding holiday. Silver Star Mountain encompasses 1,135 hectares (2,725 acres) of ski able terrain, spanning a vertical drop of 760 meters (2,500 ft.). The two mountain faces of Vance Creek and Putnum Creek offer a total of 108 exciting and diverse runs plus 340 acres of piste, un-patrolled terrain. Cross country enthusiasts can glide along miles of groomed and track set trails with some of the most spectacular vistas of the world. The National Altitude Training Centre is the only one of its kind in Canada. This facility is designed for comprehensive fitness testing and the training of individual and team athletes. As early as late October cross country teams from across the country can be seen training on the mountain. Snowboarders have their own extensive snowboard park and half pike on Vance Creek. Star Park The area has a long history of forest fires. A burn in the early 1900's cleared the entire mountain, opening it up to hunting, berry picking and eventually skiing in 1920. Forestry began using the mountain as a fire lookout as early as 1914 and constructed the present buildings in 1942. Old cabin ruins can be found on the mountain, the remains of the silver mining days. Summertime offers horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, mountain boarding, picnicking in the alpine meadows, and a lot of fresh air. |
