Some Art Work found at The Golden Sun
Above is a sample of his greeting cards that are printed by hand from blocks that he has carved. Some cards may require six carved blocks, others only one or two, depending on the image. Each card is a frame-able original signed by the artist. To see more of Ralph's work visit The Golden Sun or his web page www.ralpheastland.com Ralph Eastland grew up on Quadra Island, located between Campbell River and the British Columbia mainland. In 1969 he signed on as a crew member of the tall ship "Monte Cristo", and was the first mate when he left the boat in San Francisco in 1979 to travel to England. He returned to attend the Vancouver School of Art, majoring in painting and printmaking. In 1975 he went back to Quadra Island, and a year later laid the keel of a project that took him away from painting for seven years: building the 43 foot schooner "Nevermore". Ralph and his family lived aboard "Nevermore" for several years, cruising in summer, and wintering in various coastal communities, while collecting ideas and images for his art. He currently resides in Penticton. I had the good fortune of meeting Ralph while he was building the "Nevermore" and to spend a week cruising with him and his family in the early 1980's not long after its completion. We have remained good friends to this day and The Golden Sun displays a collection of his works, some of which are depicted above. Teresa |
