A Summer Vacation for the Whole Family

A family vacation means many different things, and as I have learnt from experience my idea of a perfect vacation does not resemble the picture that my teenage daughter has in her mind.  So how can you design a family vacation that will keep everyone happy and truly offer something for everyone?

Well I have discovered what lies under the snow on Silver Star Mountain.  The mountain truly offers something for everyone and it is away from the hustle and bustle of city life.  It is much more then an Okanagan vacation because it opens up the possibilities of a greater adventure.  You can enjoy the wine tours, the swimming and the great golfing in the valley, and then retreat to the mountain to enjoy the cooling effects of Fresh Mountain air.

You can spend the day hiking the mountain side enjoying the breath taking scenery and wildlife, and spend the evening enjoying a BBQ and your own private hot tub, with a glass of some of the Okanagan's finest.  Now that is what I call a holiday! My daughter on the other hand would rather let the horse do the walking, and be snapping photos of the spectacular mountain flowers.  Well each to their own.

The mountain biking is fabulous, and there are trails to accommodate every level of cycling.  The teenagers get a thrill riding at neck breaking speeds, down the mountain, but I prefer the type of cycling offered by the paved roller blading trails.  Pick a weekend that the mountain is hosting a  Mountain Bike Championship and see what mountain biking is really all about.

If the family has wee ones to entertain there is  Silver Lake with paddleboats and catch and release fishing (check with the resort).  There is also an indoor climbing wall for those rare inclement days, where it is necessary to burn off that excess energy those little ones may have stored up.

The mountain hosts many weddings, family reunions, and  other interesting  events throughout the summer months, so there is always lots of people-watching going on in the village.  The village itself is a delight with its colourful Victorian Architecture, and the shops provide for the necessities and unique gift buying opportunities.  If you don't feel like cooking the restaurants offer  superior dining alternatives.

Silver Star Mountain is truly a family resort that offers a fantastic alternative for an Okanagan summer vacation.  When It is high season in Okanagan valley, it is low season on the mountain, so the accommodation is reasonable and the temperature ten to fifteen degrees cooler.
