You
can make a difference in the life of an animal by volunteering … The animals at
The Animal Assistance Group Shelter are always in need of your help! If you can
offer 1 – 4 days, 1 or 2 per week, it would make a huge impact on the life of
a homeless animal. You can fill out the volunteer application below and then call
anytime, 5 days during the week between 10 am and 6 pm. You will need a very flexible
schedule. You can call or email the shelter for more details.
We
feel it is important to have a volunteer meeting every month (excluding holidays)
at various places. As a volunteer, you will be contacted about the place a few
weeks prior to the meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings to become
aware of the many opportunities available to volunteer at our shelter. If you
cannot attend a meeting, a staff member can help you when you stop in at the shelter.
As
long as you are 16 or older (no exceptions please) you are welcome to come to
the shelter to volunteer. You will need to have a waiver signed by a parent if
you are under the age of eighteen. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied
by a parent at all times.
It’s
important to remember that working with animals can be a messy job, so dress accordingly
and also dress appropriately for the weather. There is nothing more you need to
do to volunteer, it is that simple! Just come on in and we’ll handle the rest.
Listed below
are just a few things that volunteers are needed for at the shelter:
- Daily upkeep of
the office/cathouse by cleaning kennels, sterilizing cages, scooping litterboxes,
changing bedding, mopping, sweeping, feeding and watering the cats.
- Caring
for sick kittens/cats under proper supervision and guidance.
- Transport
cats/kittens to the veterinarian. This requires a proper driver’s licence and
a passport/nexus/or enhanced drivers licence since we take our animals to the
Sault Michigan vet.
- Pick
up food/litter/or cleaning supplies.
More
volunteer opportunities:
- Help
with fundraising events — look on our Upcoming Events page and just give us a
call or email if you can help at any of the scheduled events.
- Share
ideas on fundraising and special donation drives.
- Create
advertising material to help get our shelter recognized within a larger community
radius.
- Help pass
out newsletters , brochures and donation cans around your community to get the
animals more exposure. (You can stop by our shelter and pick them up anytime).
- Volunteer
for Off-site Adoption Events (you can call the shelter for more information on
adoption events).
- Gather
bedding, cleaning supplies and other items in your community, for the animals
and shelter.
- Hold
a drive at your school or in your community.
- If
you are not able to adopt at this time, please consider offering one of the most
rewarding experiences, a chance at life… Become a Foster Home today! Foster Care
enables us to rescue animals that may have otherwise been euthanized due to their
age, injury or health status. Animals in need of foster care often include Pregnant/nursing
animals, animals recovering from surgery/injuries or dogs undergoing heartworm
treatment.
- Anything
else you can think of? We are willing to work with you and any ideas you have!
Come join our committees of dedicated volunteers who strive to make a difference
in our community.
