DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN GRAMOPHONES CAME IN BIG, SOLID CABINETS?

Do you remember how we opened the doors to make it play louder and closed them to make it quieter?
Do you remember those fragile 78 rpm records?
Did you think for a minute that this new fangled technology could ever replace the Edison Cylinder?


 
 
DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN
"ALL MODERN CONVENIENCES"
MEANT A PUMP BESIDE THE KITCHEN SINK?

Do you remember the big stone cistern in the basement that collected rain water from off the roof?
Do you remember having to use the outdoor pump when the cistern ran dry during droughts?


 
 
do you remember when mason jars had glass tops held on with wire bails?

Do you remember all the delicious things that went into those jars in the summer and came out in the winter?
I remember my Grandmother buying cases of apricots at Safeways and making jar after jar of apricot jam.
I remember my mother making pickled crab apples using fruit from my aunt's tree.
