Our Program
We are a member school of the B.C.
Secondary School Motorsport Association, incorporated under the Society Act
in December of 1993. There are currently just over sixty member schools in
British Columbia including one in Washington State. The society has also been
instrumental in assisting the startup of fledgling organizations in other
provinces.
In a nutshell, we are a group of secondary school teachers with an avid interest
in both kids and car racing. Our NHRA
sanctioned race days occur roughly once a month from April through October. The
majority of our races are held at Mission
Raceway in Mission, with several races occurring at Ashcroft
and Prince George.
At Fleetwood Secondary, I offer an opportunity for students of grades eight
through twelve to participate in the program by offering it as a club, although
only licensed drivers with the "N" classification may race. Who may
race is also governed by grades, conduct at school and at the events, and
participation in the program. A major plus to the program is an opportunity to
reach "at risk" students, and offer them a chance to "fit
in" and contribute to a meaningful cause.
Cars appeal to virtually all children, regardless of gender or age. The program
offers an chance for the participants to learn about the automobile, compete on
an individual basis, and still participate as a team during the club time, while
at the same time learning that car racing can be done in a legal, safe and
proper manner.
Contributing sponsors gain advertising from having
the name of their business affixed to the car, which is displayed in car shows
throughout the lower mainland. Business names and general locations are listed
on our web page. Businesses with their own web sites are given links from our
page.
