IRP Changes At-A-Glance: Everything you need to know!

Quick Note

The IRP and it's changes can be very confusing. Here's what you need to know.

The first step is the WNCP (Western Northern Canadian Protocol) - and it's a FRAMEWORK for all the IRP documents in the region. Then, each province uses the framework to make it's own document; we call ours the BC-IRP. British Columbia has its own full implementation documents for Math K-9; however, BC is using the original WNCP document for grades 10-12.

So here's what's up for K-7:

The IRP can be selected (for math) by grade. You can find it at http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/irp/irp_math.htm

Implementation Timelines!

Date	Optional Implementation	Full Implementation i.e. Mandatory
Sept 2007	K-7 at any time prior to mandatory date
Sept 2008	K-8 at any time prior to mandatory date	K, 1, 4, 7
Sept 2009	K-9 at any time prior to mandatory date	2, 5, 8
Sept 2010		3, 6, 9, 10
Sept 2011		11
Sept 2012		12

Resources:

English resources will be ready one-year prior to the full implementation date.

French resources will be ready in time for full implementation.

There are no errors here - District may choose to implement all K-7 grades at once in September. This option is given because there are so many split-grade classes in the province that it is easier for teachers to implement the new IRPs all at once given the reduction in Learning Outcomes.
