The advance party arrives at the staging area and begin organizing
materials for the
130 Caravanistas that would begin to arrive shortly.

As the finely decorated buses for Cuba began to arrive at our staging
area, it was time to show off
the artistic skills displayed on the outsides of the buses.

It was also time to welcome old friends and comrades who are veterans
of past Cuba Caravans

Some buses were painted and decorated after they arrived at McAllen

Great care was taken in decorating these gifts to our brothers and
sisters in Cuba

Some Caravanistas recorded video documentaries that tell the story of
the Caravan

Radios and communication gear needs to be sorted out and readied for
the buses.

Gary worked hard to install radios in each of the buses to enable
drivers to keep in
touch with each other as they drove across Mexico to the port of
Tampico.

Electrical systems as well as all mechanical systems had to be checked
out completely before starting
the journey across Mexico.

Laptops begin to appear and a flurry of emails are sent out to report
the progress
of the Caravan to friends at home and those we met along the route.

It was not difficult to keep the world aware of what was happening on
the Caravan.

Meal preparation for 130 people is always a challenge, but the cooks
were outstanding! Our meals
were nutritious, full of flavor and plentyful.
