The infamous
missing ballot box 13 put Alice Texas on the map. In 1948,
Lyndon Johnson made an attempt at running for the US
Senate. On the night of the election, which was too close to
call, one ballot box went missing. Ballot box 13 from Jim Wells
County (Alice Texas) showed up
several days later, stuffed with just enough votes for LBJ to assure
his
election to office. But this is Texas. Stranger things have
happened here.
Beverly and Dallas were our overnight hosts and they invited a group of
college students
and others to attend the Pastors for Peace event in the evening.
Dallas and Beverly are long-time supporters of the Pastors for Peace
Caravan
Jim and John speak with a local newspaper reporter who attended the

After a hearty breakfast prepared by our generous hosts, we had time to
chat and later
begin our short drive to McAllen.
