    HERE'S OUR MATH ROUTINE:
  1. T table math - play a math game against the teacher. (times tables)
  2. Review facts for today's lesson.
  3. Revisit difficult problems.
  4. Teach concepts for the new lesson.
  5. Group work on a new problem.
    • 10 to 15 minutes.
    • Quest 2000 or homemade problems.
  6. Base lesson - in groups, partners or individual
    • Applied problem solving
  7. Whole group learning - review what we've learned.
  8. Homework - not just a duplication of what we did in class.
A community centre was charging $1.00 to see movies. They collected $25.00 the first day. They collected $17.00 more than that on the second day. After 2 days the club had collected $67.00 more than the second day. If this pattern continues, on what day will the club have collected at least $5000.00?
Grid -  We study grid, ratio and graphing by doing a graph demonstrating the ratio of number of thumbs (x axis) to the number of fingers on 21 hands (y axis) We'll also study possibility and probability by looking at the impossible odds of winning in lotteries! Use math computations to show the incredible odds of winning the lottery if there are 6 numbers possible with the numbers ranging from 1 to 99. Your chances of winning are one out of the product of this number: (99x99x99x99x99x99)! (lottery numbers January 5 draw were: 4, 19, 20, 35, 41, 46 (bonus was 27)
MATHEMATICS
Use coloured blocks to represent the following fractions:
3/4, 3/5, 7/8, 5/10, 2/3, 6/12, 8/10.  Use color codes to represent equivalent fractions for the above.

Tesselations        Tessellation Tool      Symmetry    Tutorials  The word "tessellate" means to form or arrange small squares in a checkered or mosaic pattern. The word "tessellate" is derived from the Ionic version of the Greek word "tesseres," which in English means "four." The first tilings were made from square tiles.
A regular polygon has 3 or 4 or 5 or more sides and angles, all equal. A regular tessellation means a tessellation made up of congruent regular polygons. [Remember: Regular means that the sides of the polygon are all the same length. Congruent means that the polygons that you put together are all the same size and shape.]              Student Projects

We'll continue here with a combined Social Studies - Math exercise. We'll create a grid of the floor plan of our classroom and use that grid to study the concepts of latitude and longitude and the principles of graphing in Mathematics.
