First
off, Tabby isn't my real name. It's an alias. A pseudonym.
A nom de plume. I've been communicating on computers ever
since the old dial-up BBS days, and I used to change aliases
as often as I change socks. I'd get bored so I'd think of
something new. Tabby has stuck though because of my websites,
starting with the original Tabby Gallery (which, as of this
writing, is still around but no longer being updated). So
the theme has stuck through Tabby Diaries and now on to
Tabby Studios.
Tabby Gallery
was my first website. A few years ago, I discovered the
joy of manipulating photos digitally, commonly known as
"Photoshopping" no matter what software you use.
As my collection grew, I needed somewhere to show them off,
so Tabby Gallery was born. It was very simple at first,
but I wasn't really that happy with it. That led me to learn
more about website design as well as how to make my own
graphics. That was almost as enjoyable as messing around
with pictures, so I experimented with that as well.
As much as digital
manipulation filled a creative niche within me, my greatest
joy has always been photography, and the advent of the digital
camera has allowed me to get into it more than ever before
without the expense of hundreds of rolls of film or the
cost of development. I don't have my own digital camera
though, so I'm limited with what I can borrow, and I usually
borrow a camera belonging to one of the managers at work
(thanks!) which has resulted with a fair number of pictures
I've been happy with over the past few years. The only unfortunate
thing right now is that the cameras I want are way too far
out of my price range. (As of June 20, 2005, I have my own
camera, a Canon PowerShot Pro1. I took into account how
much I could afford each month, and this is a good quality
camera without quite being a digital SLR. I'm very happy
with it.)
Which brings
me to this site. I've been planning on Tabby Studios for
some time, and it's even part of the title design at my
blog (sorry, no link as I have some fairly strong views
and I don't want that to taint the enjoyment of my art for
those who disagree with me, and sadly that happens far too
often these days, just Google "boycott". I have
been blogging since 2001 though, before I even heard the
term). I was playing around with a photo one day, tried
a little title graphic, and the muse struck. Next thing
I know, I had a basic template designed and voila, Tabby
Studios came alive!
So that's my
website history. As for my history, I was born in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada and was fortunate throughout my childhood
to live in other countried and experience other cultures.
I've spent my entire adult life in Edmonton save for nine
months somewhere that proved to me that I was made for big
city life.
Thank you for
visiting Tabby Studios, and I've hoped you enjoyed my photography.
Please sign the guestbook if you'd care to, I'd love to
know where people who visit here are from and what you think!
