School=20 Growth Planning Day: Parent=20 Participation

3D"Right-click

All=20 BC schools are required to produce a School Growth Plan annually. = The=20 purpose of the plan is to set departmental and school wide goals = for the=20 coming year. It also identifies areas where the school is doing = "well" and=20 those areas which need improvement. Mr Alex=20 Grant has invited parents to participate in this = event,=20 to be held on Wednesday 9 April (location to be confirmed). = Lunch is=20 provided.

During the workshop portion of the day every=20 department identifies its goals for the following year depending = on where=20 the teachers in the department feel attention needs to be=20 focused.

The KitsPAC Executive would like as many = parents=20 who are not on the Executive to have a chance to participate. = This=20 event may be of particular interest to parents of younger students = as they=20 are new to the system and decisions that are made at this meeting = affect=20 what happens at the school for the following year.

PAC can = also use=20 this time to identify areas where it would like to focus = attention. But=20 more importantly, parents get an opportunity to speak to teachers = in a=20 casual environment and listen as groups of teachers identify some = of the=20 issues they face in the school.

Participants at school = growth=20 planning day events always come away with a much enhanced = appreciation of=20 how the school runs.<br>

KitsGiftCard=20 Program

3D"Right-click

Parents are=20 always encouraged to be involved with the school as much as = they are=20 able to; but if you cannot volunteer your time, if you at = least=20 participate in the KitsGiftCard Program you will be helping = without any=20 extra cost to you.

Each parent can help raise money for = their=20 children's school by participating in the KitsGiftCard Program. = All you=20 have to do is do your everyday shopping at your local retailers, = who are=20 ready to donate a percentage of the sale of their gift cards to = our school=20 through the KitsGiftCard Program. The percentages our school = can gain=20 range from 2 to 20%.

Listed Below are the higher donating=20 retailers: IGA 7%, Stongs 6%, Choices 7%, Capers 7%, American = Eagle 6%,=20 Banana Republic 7%, Best Buy 6%, Chapters/Indigo/Coles 10%, = Crabtree &=20 Evelyn 10%, La Senza, 7%, Linens-N-Things 7%, Mark's Work = Warehouse 7%,=20 Petcetera 7%, Roots 7%, Sport Mart 9%, Body Shop 10%, Gap 7%, = Winners 7%,=20 many popular restaurants 7-15%, Blockbuster/Rogers 7%, Cineplex = 5%,=20 Festival Cinemas (Ridge, 5th Ave, Park) 20%. All the major gas = stations=20 only give 2% (but we all buy gas, so it can really add=20 up!)

Download the Order Form from the Kitsilano School=20 Website: Click on "Parents" on the left hand side, then click = on=20 "KitsGiftCard Program", and finally click on "KitsGiftCard Program = info/order form".

Putting In an Order and Picking Up your = Order:=20 You may place a one-time order, or have a standing order with = post-dated=20 cheques.

Drop the order form off your cheque(s) to the = school=20 office accountant. If it is more convenient, you can drop it off = at my=20 home. You or your child may pick up your order from the school = office=20 accountant, or from my home in the Kits neighbourhood. Please = indicate=20 your preference on the back of the order form. Call 604 737- 4336 = or email=20 me at evanderpas@telus.net if you would like to make home = arrangements.=20

Profits (Why bother?): The KitsGiftCard Program = last year=20 made between $80 to $440 per month, depending on the number of = parents=20 participating, which was usually between 5- 10 parents. Since = September,=20 our parent participation has been decreasing.

If 100 = parents=20 participate (which is not that many considering we have over 1500 = students=20 in our school), we could raise at least 10 times that amount to = benefit=20 our children's school programs.

The PAC manages the money, = and as=20 a parent you are automatically a member of PAC, so you have a say = as to=20 how the money gets used. So please give it a try - it's=20 easy.

Thank you very much to all those parents who = currently=20 participate in the KitsGiftCard Program. We look forward to new = parents=20 joining.

Questions? Email Elene at evanderpas@telus.net = or phone=20 604 737-4336. Deadline is first Monday of every month.=20
