Grade 12's: It is crucial that you start applying for
scholarships now. Please give yourselves 1 to 2 hours a week to apply
for scholarships; 15 minutes a day won't hurt ya-ha!
I have a records form that can make the scholarship process a lot easier.
As for the essay component please remember that you are not expected to write
out a long research essay. 2 or 3 maximum (unless stated
otherwise). Think about the number of students applying for
scholarships, and think about all the essays people have to read. Keep
it short and to the point, and be creative! Also, a hint most of your
essays for scholarships can be "recycled" meaning you will find that
most scholarships will ask you to write an essay on community involvement or
leadership.
Grade 11's: You can benefit from all the information that the Grade
12's are recieving. Although the number of
scholarships available to Grade 11's is limited; if I know of any I will be
sure to send you and e-mail and post it on the wall for you.
Grade 10's: This is the year that you will be starting your
Graduation Portfolios. Please note that you have 3 years to complete
this. It consists of 30 hours of work experience 80 hours of physical fitness
and a gradutation transition program. Please
refer to the Kits website: http://kitsilano.vsb.bc.ca/TP/files/Sframes.htm
to find out about the transition plan please click on "PLAN" on
the left hand side menu.
Grade 9's and 8's: Start finding out about
volunteer opportunities. If you need a SIN card application form
or a resume created, please come and see me! You need to be 15 to start
working however; some places will hire you if you are 14.
If you have any further questions or comments please give me a shout via
e-mail or come by the Career Centre.
Sherina's newsletter is packed with information on
jobs, scholarships, and volunteer opportunities. To receive the weekly
newsletter email her at schandra@vsb.bc.ca or phone her at (604)713- 8961.
